If mh professionals truly believe that folk they've framed as BPD should handle suicidal and self harm by themselves and without option of admission then they need an information campaign about it. At present, along with everyone else, folk labelled BPD get constant messages to ask for help when suicidal, to seek help when in crisis and against all that messaging it can be very confusing to then be told 'take responsibility' etc..

'Involvement' can be rewarding for service users and professionals when done well but when done poorly it can reinforce despair about improving services. Involvement can be especially soul-destroying when service user leaders turn out to have got into their powerful service user roles by talking the talk while carefully not to rocking the boat when organisations involvement is poor/tokenistic.
