Our mission is to save every one but sometimes we can't save people. This #WorldDrowningPreventionDay, with the help of Megan and Brogan Griffiths, we're sharing the story of Haydn who sadly drowned last July. This post is dedicated to him, and all those we couldn't save.

#RNLI Haydn, 23, was on a first date when he went for a swim near #Hoylake. He was a strong swimmer, an experienced sailor and he'd worked on a safety and rescue boat for open water swimming. He would have had no known reason to fear going into the water that July day.

Did you know that there are 238 RNLI lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland? We are shining a light on our different lifeboat stations. This week, the #StationSpotlight is on @PortrushRNLI in Northern Ireland! Situated on Northern Ireland’s famous Causeway Coast, Portrush RNLI Lifeboat Station has approximately 25 lifeboat volunteers that operate two active lifeboats: William Gordon Burr, a Severn class lifeboat, and The David Roulston (Civil Service 52), a D class lifeboat.

At this time of year, weather conditions can be at their worst. Even in the roughest seas and highest winds, our volunteer lifeboat crews are on hand and ready to save every one. We take a look at a few of these shouts in this thread 🧵 (📷Steve Duncombe) Whilst out on exercise, crew from @RNLITorbay diverted to aid a sailor onboard a yacht in distress. In extreme winds and building seas, the crew managed to successfully escort the yacht and owner to safety.

A warm welcome aboard to all our new followers and supporters who've joined our crew these past few days. These are just some of the many recent rescues that the amazing volunteers you support have been carrying out this week 👇 #SaveEveryOne .@StMarysRNLI and Sennen Cove volunteers spent the whole night at sea on Thursday battling #StormEvert to assist 22 yachts in difficulty around the Isles of Scilly in 'horrendous' conditions, with winds of 50 knots. In total, the Sennen crew spent 12 hours afloat.

We just want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you from everyone in the RNLI family for the outpouring of support we’ve received in the past few days. We simply wanted to tell our volunteer crews’ story and make it clear that our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos. After a national newspaper article was published over the weekend, we’ve faced a huge volume of comments on social media about our lifesaving work in the Channel.
