My father died by suicide on Monday.

He loved my brother and me deeply, and supported me in all endeavors. He would reliably bail me out when I screwed up or was struggling. As he said in the note he left us, he wanted to be, and tried to be, a good person. Once upon a time, before our relationship fractured, he would take me to Giants games. I still wear his hand me down Giants sweatshirts from 1991. My abiding love for the Nats is attributable to all the games he took me to. He bought me my Nats hat at their first ever home game.
