I had a revelation this week: You're not being challenged if most of the difficulty of your job comes from managing workplace dysfunction. But a lot of workplaces like to frame dysfunction as "challenge" and pretend like nothing needs to change.
Real challenge should invite learning new skills or advancing the purpose of your job in some way. It shouldn't just be putting out fires or fixing someone else's mistakes.

DEPRESSIVES OF TWITTER! In this Year of Our Apocalypse 2020, I have made a useful thing for our people: the Depressive Alignment Chart, as illustrated by random and arbitrary media I've consumed in quarantine!

Wow. So apparently some folks out there think the solution to school shootings is to make the teachers carry guns. Speaking as an educator let's be absolutely clear about one thing: We. Are. Not. Soldiers.
I didn't spend 6 years in college to have guns added to my job description. I didn't plunge my hands into human cadavers and snake cameras down people's throats to deal with armed men as a normal hazard in my dayjob.
