Trans, she/they. The unstoppable ego meets the immovable insecurity. Opinions (shamefully) my own. https://t.co/1WDWXg8xCF D&D alt: @drifterworkshop

Like most labels, calling yourself transgender is a matter of convenience. It's shorthand for a lot of qualities you'd generally associate with it, but by no means do you need to match each quality in order to be trans, nor are you necessarily trans just because you do match them While a lot of trans people do go on or want to be on HRT, there are trans people who do not and that doesn't make them less trans.

Likewise, there are cis or questioning people on HRT and by no means are they forced to call themselves trans if they don't want to.

Okay one thing I will say about the trans community. A lot of people that presented as white, cishet men before transitioning have no idea how to live as an oppressed demographic, and it leads them to make a lot of questionable choices. This is not to say that people in that category never faced hardship, or even never experienced transphobia or discrimination before transitioning (as that stuff can affect you even before you present as your true gender).

But there is a different vibe once you're actually in it

TW: mental health transphobia

So some people have asked me how I manage to remain positive in the face of everything. How I manage to stick around on this site despite day after day of the tragedy and bullshit. So I thought I might write about it.

🧵 Gonna preface this with saying, I am quite privileged as is and that definitely goes a long way. This is not a bible on mental health, nor am I saying you have failed or are responsible if your mental health has taken a hit. This is just how I get through every day.

Okay as a former massive HP nerd (that fell off before the movie series even finished), here we go:

-Wizards used to shit on the floor and use magic to just make it go away
-Based on Hogwarts students numbers, the UK has like 40 magic kids a year Hagrid was said to raise werewolf cubs below his bed...but we also see that werewolves are humans with a curse so wtf Hagrid

What exactly do transphobes think the sales pitch is to turn a kid trans? Like do you think we go up to a teenage boy and say "hey, you want to lose muscle mass, shrink your balls, and lose the respect of all your friends?" and then that kid just starts chugging titty skittles? "Hey buddy do you like having a partner? Well can I interest you in drastically shrinking your dating pool and making the prospect of dating much more anxiety inducing and even dangerous?"

Alright so it's been one month since my GRS, and a long time since one of my namesake rants, so here I am, about to deliver a literal vagina monologue. I'm gonna talk about everything I can relating to my surgery including the planning, procedure, and recovery. Hope it helps!

🧵 First a few disclaimers: I am 28, have been on hormones for 2.5 years, solidly middle class, and am able bodied. My experiences are not universal.

Also, I'm going to be as clinical as possible, but it is genitals, so sex stuff will come up. I'll tag it though so dw

"Kids in the trans cult aren't being informed about what these hormones will do to them!"

Actually I was made well aware of what testosterone would do to me when in 9th grade sex-ed class and I immediately wanted off the fucking ride but wasn't allowed. Where's my news article? Like imagine being 16 and not knowing what happens during puberty or what testosterone/estrogen broadly does to a mfer.

PSA: Passing, being attractive, and not being dysphoric are three separate things and should be treated as such. Sometimes all three can align and that's very convenient!

But sometimes they don't and you gotta figure out where one ends and the others begin if you want to solve it properly

I don't know which trans person needs to hear this, but pitch plays a surprisingly small part in how your voice is gendered Practice resonance, cadence, speech patterns, tone, intonation, they all matter.

Imagine a fem voice as needing 80 points out of 100 to achieve. Pitch is maybe 20 points. In theory you can get there without it by practising the rest. It helps, but its not the sole criteria

"Oh uhh one more thing...'sir'. you said your favourite games were Celeste and Fallout: New Vegas?" Picture of columbo from the eponymous show "No nothing strange about that. I mean I personally had a brother in law, well sister in law now, who loved those games. Funny, you also wear the same green Triforce shirt. I hear that one's popular." Okay fuck, I figured out what REALLY stuck in my craw about the "white queers can use their whiteness as a shield under fascism" take.

It's that it displays such an ignorance of how systemic oppression works - by someone who clearly hasn't faced it (yet) These kinds of takes are only made by people who think that racism is just when people on the street are mean to you because your skin colour.

While physical violence is a thing that a lot of PoC (and especially black people) face in our white supremacist society-

I mean, I'm all for dismantling white supremacy and analysing white privilege, but this is just a bad take. They don't see white queers as "good queers" they see them as "bad whites," because to them, white has a narrow definition steeped in patriarchy that queerness derails Honestly, the pick-me white people are kinda annoying. The kind that try to be "not one of the bad ones" so much that they just overly simply racial dynamics into shit like this. It really doesn't help anyone, it just assuages your own guilt

I'm feeling more stable than I have in months and now I'm doing the thing where I look back with emotional clarity and go "holy fuck, no wonder everyone was concerned for me 😬" Let's hope this lasts for a while
