It's time for another classic Mike Rose stats tweet thread!!
This time it's ☕**Spirittea launch week stats!**☕
We launched Spirittea last Monday, and it's been one of our biggest launches to date:
It's been a *fascinating* launch, due to where the game has been most successful
Usually we do very well on Steam, then the console versions catch up in the months afterwards
For Spirittea, Steam was our weakest platform, with Xbox and Switch accounting for 80% of the revenue!

Let me tell you the story about how a little country called "Argentina" helped us to our biggest Nintendo Switch launch to date
I write "Argentina" in quotation marks because well... it wasn't really Argentina, was it?
Time for another classic Nintendo eShop thread:
So we put Let's Build a Zoo up for pre-order on Nintendo Switch on September 22, and I was feeling good about this one. Nice buzz around it, perfect for Switch... I went to bed with decent pre-orders trickling in
When I woke up and checked sales... holy crap. So many pre-orders!

✨The Let's Build a Zoo launch week sales thread✨
We launched Let's Build a Zoo last Friday on Steam and Epic. It's been a pretty bonkers week, and the game has broken even already which is extremely pleasant!!
So in classic Mike Rose fashion, let's delve into LOADSA NUMBERS:
In the first 7 days we've sold 32k units, which translates to nearly $500k in revenue
This roughly matches what my expectations for the game were, and it means that all dev costs have been recouped, and the future for the game (and loads of further updates!) has been secured YEY

Currently playing a fun game called “how long can I stand playing GTA III before I can’t take it anymore”
This game has not even slightly aged well
I can’t even beat like, the fourth mission in the game, the controls are just too fucking shit. I can’t believe this has cost me money

No More Robots is 🎂4 years old🎂, so it's time for a thread of *LOVELY NUMBERS*:
- $12m in revenue during last 12 months
- More than 800,000 units sold
- More than 4 million people played our games
- Split pretty dang evenly across PC + all console platforms
Look at this graph
Here's the batshit thing: We didn't release a single new game in the last 12 months
Those numbers have come from bringing our existing games to new platforms, getting lovely deals for our games, and being Very Good at slowly but surely discounting our games incrementally deeper

This morning, I was locked out of my Google account
I chatted with Google support to see if they could help me. This is a genuine live chat with Google support:
tldr: Google support person couldn't help me, then I solved it myself, and explained my solution to them so they could fix the issue on their own PC

I wish that popular video game websites, with active comments sections, would spend more time educating their gamer audience, and jumping in when they inevitably spout stupid opinions
I know we should be "ignoring the comments", but the problem is we just let this stuff fester
"Ignoring the comments" is exactly why so many gamers now have such ill informed opinions about games, and how games are made.
They know very little, but they continuously spout garbage, and teach other, younger gamers tons of bad "facts". And no-one does anything about it

It's time for: 🧪The eShop experiments!🧪
Over the last 9 months, we've put multiple games out on the Nintendo eShop. I'd heard beforehand that the eShop can be tricky, so I was excited to see what worked, and what didn't.
Here's what I found. LOOONG THREAD TIME:
First off, before I really get into it:
1. I won't be giving any specific sales figures, as I don't want to upset anyone, but I'll try to be as useful as possible
2. This isn't really going to be a "eShop is good/bad" thread. You can make your own mind up from my findings

So hang on
What exactly is even available on PS5 at launch? Didn’t every game just say “Holiday” or 2021?
That was a super impressive array of games, but it didn’t seem that there’s actually anything next-gen available on launch day at all??

Wake up this morning to find a man in my garden, cutting one of our trees down without consent, and then letting the heavy branches fall down and wreck our fence and property
On hold with @gmpolice for nearly an *hour* but they finally tell us they aren’t going to help
Amazing
The guy has come and knocked on our door the day before asking for consent to do it, and I’d say well, come to me with a plan first
So he just took it upon himself to let himself onto our property and do it while we slept
And the police will do *nothing about it*

Does anyone have a recommendation for which Android device to get, if I wanna do some xClouding?
I should clarify:
I already have a phone (iOS), so really, I'm looking for... a small tablet? I don't wanna sit with a massive Android tablet trying to play handheld games, but I also don't need an expensive Android phone
Not really sure what the inbetween on Android is

Boring but *incredibly* important PSA:
The IARC age rating system is lovely and easy to use, but it's also *super* dangerous, and can have your game pulled from the various online stores (eShop, PS4 etc) if they disagree with the rating you give your game
Be aware of this!!
Numerous devs have had their games pulled from stores recently, because IARC disagreed with their rating post-launch
I can't believe I'll be playing Spelunky 2 in 39 days
I can't believe I'll be playing Spelunky 2 in 38 days

🌟🌟Mike Rose's 5 Horrible, Brutal Reasons Why Your Game Isn't Going to Sell, and What You Can Potentially Do To Turn It Around🌟🌟
This is going to be unpleasant!!
Thread:
1. Is this your first game?
Then look, I hate to tell you this, but you're probably going to fail :\
Stop making that epic 5-years-in-development RPG, and start thinking smaller. The "big" game can come later, once you've worked out how the heck to actually do everything!

🥳No More Robots is 3 years old!🥳
In Year 3:
● We launched 2 new games (Yes, Your Grace and Family Man)
● We made $5 million in revenue
● We sold over 325,000 units
● Nearly doubled the team (now 7 people!)
● We signed 2 secret, unannounced games
● We announced TombStar!
Other notable stuff:
● Thanks to Xbox Game Pass, Steam Free Weekend etc, around 3 million people have now played No More Robots games!
● We only just started to put titles onto Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as Year 3 was ending, so their impact will fall into Year 4

There's a thread on Resetera where Switch owners gather to discuss how they won't buy a Switch game, if the dashboard icon doesn't have text on it
and honestly, it might be the most depressing video game forum thread I've read in my entire life
(and that is saying a LOT)
imagine being that pissy, christ almighty
you must really not have a lot of woes in your life, if that is the kind of thing you dedicate time to complaining about

Descenders is the 8th most popular game on Xbox Game Pass at the moment <3
I cannot stress how incredible Xbox Game Pass has ended up being for Descenders. It's elevated the game to heights we couldn't have imagined
We also just signed a new Game Pass deal for the game, so it's gonna be in Game Pass for a looong time to come

Amazon just won't stop recommending this full size Danny DeVito standee to me, and I have no idea why
I would genuinely buy it as a joke to make you all happy, but there is very little chance that I am spending £40 on a joke like this

Something I don't think people talk about enough when it comes to Nintendo Switch game launches
It is super messed up that games on the eShop are ranked by "units sold" rather than "revenue made".
It's the main reason why the eShop is starting to look like the App Store
So currently, when you look at the Top Sellers list on the eShop, or the Current Offers tabs -- every game in those lists is ranked by how many units it is selling, regardless of how much it costs, or the current discount
This is the reason why you see so many 90% off discounts

Ohhhhhh no, what is THIS
An "Award" button has appeared next to all Steam reviews... got a feeling some kind of award system for "good" reviews is about to launch in 10 mins...
Currently when you click it, it just says this, which makes me assume it's about to go properly live, but isn't fully yet
