1/ Being anti-Semitic and pro-Israel aren’t mutually exclusive. The fervent right-wing defense of Israel is, for many Evangelicals, about getting the Jews out of America: only when all the Jews go “back” to Israel will the Messiah return.
2/ The Christian embrace of Jewish people is relatively new, with its roots in post-WWII guilt (for, you know, perpetuating genocide). But whether on a pedestal or as a neighbor, Jews are “othered” in a way that comfortably permits disgust and hatred of their culture and religion
