So Iā€™ve been coming out slowly for the past 4 years. This is a thread on why trans kids to their parents is such a dangerous idea as someone who first told teachers at 15. Trans kids are often isolated, often we donā€™t know any other trans kids and even when we do know some, we may not feel comfortable talking to them.

Thereā€™s a lot of anger around @Mermaids_Gender right now from Gender Critical people, whoā€™ve never used it.

I have. So let me tell you what theyā€™re actually like. Between the age of 15 and 17, I was hiding my gender identity even when I didnā€™t really want to. Why did I hide it? I didnā€™t have the confidence to come out. I didnā€™t know anyone like me. I didnā€™t know who I could talk to. I was scared, and alone.

But I spoke to mermaids. I was nervous about making the phone call with them. I didnā€™t want anyone to find out.

Sometimes I see Gender Critical people say to me that, whilst I am happy as a trans person right now, Iā€™ll probably detransition in the future. This kind of narrative is surprisingly common. Even when Iā€™ve stated nothing that would suggest Iā€™m even unhappy with my transitionā€¦ ā€¦let alone considering detransition.

Itā€™s almost like they want me to detransition, even when Iā€™ve said Iā€™m happy that I transitioned.

Itā€™s a harmful narrative, whilst no one should be pressured into transitioning, equally no one should be pressured into detransitioning.

Free Speech, Liberalism and intolerance.

A Thread: It is true, that liberalism believes in free speech by virtue of wanting the state to stay out of our lives. This has been a thing for a long time but is especially strong in more classical liberalism. The modern liberal alternative doesnā€™t see the state in the same way.

Why I see this as dangerous for British Democracy.

Thread: šŸ§µ 1/x As we all know parties are political entities of people of similar political ideas. Some viewpoints are fundamental to a party, for example the Scottish national party supporting independence or the Green Party supportive the environment.
