If you’re not a baseball fan, here’s why the Aaron Judge story is so heavily promoted in CFB terms. 🧵
—-
The New York Yankees are a team with a lot of money that hasn’t actually done anything in over a decade, so their fans are desperate to celebrate something. (Texas) Judge’s 61 home runs tie an AL record, but are way short of the MLB record. Still, people push league records as if they’re important out of a misguided sense of loyalty to the teams they play more. (The SEC)

Ithaca keeps their Liberty League title hopes alive, finishing conference play at 5-1. They now need RPI to lose a game – and the Engineers are currently in overtime with St. Lawrence. #D3FB Several other teams have clinched #D3FB playoff auto bids or can do so today. The first was Cortland, who clinched the Empire 8 title last week.

Checking in on Texas Southern hosting that new team called North American University... 52-0! Make that 59-0...

Tomorrow it's FCS Texas Southern's turn to play a team that Google doesn't know about. North American University appears to be a real school in suburban Houston. Founded as Texas Gulf Institute in 2007, decided to become Generic School Name University in 2013 + football this year Image ESPN doesn't even show the game on their schedule; possibly because it's uncountable for NCAA, NAIA, or anything other than homecoming attendance (no surprises the 0-3 have the Stallions scheduled): Image

All 21 points in the Final AP Poll for 4-6 Texas Tech came from a single #5 vote that was probably intended for Texas A&M. Wouldn't have pushed Texas A&M ahead of #3 Clemson in the final standings, but would have closed the gap a bit. The 21 points in the final AP Poll that Texas Tech accidentally finished the season with is identical to the 21 points that Pac-12 Champion and Fiesta Bowl participant Oregon had.

Assuming they play at Milliy Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan that is a 13,422 mile round trip. Milliy Stadium is used by the Uzbekistan National Team and FC Bunyodkor for soccer. Seats ~34,000 which would be much easier for the Huskers to fill and continue their sellout streak. A popular dish in Uzbek cuisine is the somsa: a savory dough filled with meat and vegetables. Runza enthusiasts will be right at home!

UCF has more penalties than points. Image Maybe UCF thinks it's Flag Day, cause they're averaging almost one a minute. Image

The Week 3 Coaches Poll is out, and the Big Ten is allowed back in. Here's where they landed:
• #10 Ohio State
• #13 Penn State
• #17 Wisconsin
• #19 Michigan
• #22 Minnesota It's a weird result of a weird season. There are probably 0 voters that think Ohio State is the tenth best team in the country, but quite a few that think they're top 3 and quite a few that refused to rank them, leading to a #10 rank in aggregate.

Weirdest stat related to hot mics today: 7 of the 130 FBS Head Coaches are named Mike, more than any other first name. Jeff comes in 2nd with 5. There are 17 "Mike" FBS coordinators, too!

The Coaches Poll is out, with the Big Ten and Pac-12 removed for not playing this fall. Interestingly, Boise State did get 15 votes, despite the Mountain West also sitting out. Image Hot new conspiracy theory: the Boise State votes are from Big 12 coaches hoping to emergency drag them into the conference for a quality opponent this season. 🤔🤔🤔

When Central Arkansas plays Austin Peay on Thursday, they'll be the 14th D1 team since 2018 to play a game on 5 days rest when their opponent has had more. Those 13 teams on short rest are actually 11-2, most recently with Mississippi State's Egg Bowl win last year. The only time since 1978 that an FBS/DI-A team has played on under 5 days rest was a 2018 game between Coastal Carolina and Campbell. The game was moved up to Wednesday due to Hurricane Florence, so both teams were on 4 days rest.

We are *3* hours away from watching an actual college football game this season. Multiple reports coming out that Austin Peay will be missing several key players due to quarantine. Austin Peay has had one of the most incredible trajectories in D1 Football:
• Went 1-45 from 2013-16
• Immediately went 8-4 in 2017 ending a 29-game losing streak
• 3/4 2017 losses were to FBS teams, and they scored more points against UCF than Auburn did.

Rivals TCU & SMU will not play under the Big 12’s new scheduling format (requiring the single non-conference game to be a home game); this would've been the 100th meeting, instead it's the 1st time it's been missed since 2006: 247sports.com/college/smu/Ar… Given how complicated this year is, guess you could say TCU and SMU's schedules are out of the Iron Skillet and into the fire.
