🧵 The imposition of tariffs today was completely avoidable - all these countries had to do was serve as partners in stopping the flow of deadly fentanyl that has killed over 200,000 Americans. Mexico, in particular, should be a much better neighbor and work with us to stop these deadly drugs and combat the cartels.
Unfortunately, I know this won't happen without extreme pressure. Just a couple of years ago, I, along with Chairman @RepJasonSmith and members of @WaysandMeansGOP, met with then-President Obrador to talk about the fentanyl problem, mass illegal immigration, and other issues. Obrador could not have cared less about dead Americans.
