Here’s the deal on Bring Chicago Home:
Ballot measures are difficult. Ballot measures can often be complicated. And while often we like the idea of Direct Democracy, we haven’t done much of it in Chicago & Illinois and it requires some getting used to.
When people are asked to vote yes for a tax of any kind the natural inclination is to avoid doing so.
These types of referenda are exercises in TRUST not in ideology.
Because of decades of ppl saying one thing and doing another, the trust is fragile and in many cases absent.

The lack of attention being paid to CTA service by decision makers is troubling. We deserve a safe, clean and accessible public transit system. I’ve been a CTA rider for 30+ years and it’s pretty bad today. A quarter of Chicagoans don’t have cars. There are solutions.
Livability should be our goal. Not survivability. We know Chicagoans are tough. We can Survive most anything. But let’s shift to a better standard.

The revelation of reality sometimes stings in the most unassuming ways. Last Friday, @GovPritzker's Exec Order requiring facemasks for those who venture outside went into effect. This EO was the right thing to do to protect Illinoisians in the face of this deadly virus. 1/16
It is a responsible move that will save lives and those who are using it as a reason to "stick it to the establishment" or start a contrived fight over "personal freedom," are misguided and out of line. This includes @VP Pence. 2/16

I know I probably shouldn’t say this, but I would be remiss if I didn’t. As the strike continues & our children miss out on instruction and growth, student athletes miss out on opportunities, college bound students scramble for resources and our city holds its collective breath..
I feel like we as legislators at all levels have not done our jobs. @CTULocal1 should not even have to be fighting over some of these issues. Legislators need to legislate. We have failed to meet the most basic needs of our children...
