.@POTUS’s decision was the right call—the U.S. needed to withdraw from Afghanistan. After 20 years, thousands of American and Allied lives lost and trillions of dollars spent, I’m heartbroken by the fact that peaceful & stable conditions in the country could not be created. (1/4) But we can’t lose sight of the President’s historic decision to get our troops out of this prolonged conflict. Staying in Afghanistan would have required more troops & resources with no clear timeline. (2/4)

Today, domestic terrorists – instigated by a President unhinged from reality – attacked our government & duly elected representatives of the American people. We have now reconvened to continue our constitutionally mandated work to certify the election & uphold our democracy.
