President Trump announced he’s ready to walk away from a court case in defense of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act’s (EMTALA) protections for emergency abortion care. To put it simply: this deeply dangerous decision means that Donald Trump and the Department of Justice have decided to let women die by restricting access to abortion. 🧵
No woman should have to wait until her condition is life-threatening to get an abortion — and when they do, we’ve seen dire consequences. Women have miscarried in public restrooms, doctors have had to wait until a patient’s fever spiked and heart rate dropped to provide care. Tragically, some women have died. Refusing to enforce EMTALA will endanger the health and lives of millions of women nationwide. (2/7) propublica.org/article/nevaeh…

Tonight, House Republicans passed a budget that dismantles Medicaid, cuts food assistance for vulnerable communities, and strips funding from public schools while giving tax handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk and adding $3.3 trillion to our deficit.
I voted NO. A 🧵
This budget is not about responsible spending, government efficiency, or lowering costs for families — in fact, it does the exact opposite.
Washington Republicans may tell you they are not cutting Medicaid — but don’t be fooled. They are cutting $880 billion from Medicaid. Let’s be clear about what that actually means: there are nearly two million New Jerseyans — including 800,000 children — who rely on Medicaid for health care coverage. (2/5)

So much for a “meritocracy.”
Last night at the Pentagon, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth dismantled a core principle of American democracy: the apolitical military.
Let me explain what’s going on and why it is deeply dangerous for our country: 🧵
Secretary Hegseth announced that he is firing some of our nation’s top military leaders — including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General C.Q. Brown, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, and a number of three and four star Generals and Flag Officers. (2/9)

I’m frustrated with the lack of answers as we watch drones fly through our skies. That’s why, from my experience in the military & on @HASCDemocrats, I’m introducing a five-point plan of action to identify what’s in our skies and improve communications with the public. A 🧵:
#1: The United States has MQ-9 Reaper drones and counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) ground-based radars that can track and identify what is in our skies. My plan calls on the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to work together to deploy these technologies. 2/7

.@SpeakerJohnson is again putting his MAGA agenda ahead of our national security – at Donald Trump's direction.
He is jamming the Intelligence & Armed Services Committees w/ extreme members who were central to Jan. 6 & efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
It's dangerous.🧵
Normally, committee seats are chosen by a steering committee at the beginning of a congressional term. Doing so now, especially given the key committees being targeted, is a political move dictated to the Speaker by Trump.

As a working mom, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to secure childcare. Affordable childcare is essential to ensuring a strong economic recovery and overcoming our workforce shortages.
We know that 1.8 million women, including over 1 million mothers, dropped out of the workforce as a result of COVID-19, many of whom haven’t been able to re-enter. Last month, women accounted for only 12% of the new jobs that were created nationwide.

Just received an additional briefing from @fema officials on their response on the continued fallout from Ida. Residents located in counties that received a disaster declaration may begin to apply for Individual Assistance.
FEMA is also working to set up Disaster Recovery Centers this week on the ground in these areas.

THREAD: With 5 million cases of COVID and 163K Americans dead, Executive Orders that gut Social Security and Medicare and shift the UI cost to states don't cut it. Ignoring schools, child care, and food assistance isn’t leadership. Congress must pass a package to address:
UI: Expanded UI is “protecting the economy from the cascading effects of a sudden drop in consumer demand” from the pandemic. This keeps some of our small businesses afloat and millions out of poverty. wsj.com/articles/lapse…

Spoke yesterday with the Acting Director of the Strategic National Stockpile to advocate for New Jersey and the critical need for key medical equipment for our healthcare systems, nursing homes, and first responders on the front lines in our state. 1/
I talked about the importance of getting additional personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators to NJ. I told him about my calls every morning with our local healthcare providers, and their concerns about protecting personnel and expanding intensive care capacity. 2/
