Been thinking a lot about FRIDA's statement in response to the $10m donation from Mackenzie Scott & why it says about debates over tainted donations and charity vs justice.
So here are some assorted Saturday afternoon thoughts. youngfeministfund.org/money-is-polit…
The long history of tainted donations hinges on the qn of whether to take "bad money" and put it to good uses, or refuse and stay pure. Concern re former option has always been that it implies condoning donor's mode of wealth creation, but maybe this represents a middle way?

ICYMI: I’ve been speaking to people across civil society for the @caf Giving Thought podcast🎙️ about their experiences of the coronavirus crisis, how it's affecting CSOs & how they are responding.
Here’s a brief thread on key points for me in the conversations so far:
1) This is a potentially unprecedented crisis for many organisations, in terms of massive funding drops at the same time as increased demand.
But most are more concerned about the risks to those they fund/serve rather than themselves.

Further to my earlier musings on the Bezos announcement, been thinking about the criteria on which philanthropy is judged.
In particular, the qn: “what would a universally lauded e.g. of philanthropy look like?”
So, please bear with a small thread. 1/
I’ve been toying for a while with an idea for trying to tie together various strands of current critiques & possible responses etc into a coherent policy narrative/prescription for philanthropy in C21st & this has helped crystallize it a bit.
I think.
Maybe. 2/

Here's the conversation in my head this morning:
ABSOLUTELY NO-ONE: What has really been missing this week is some thoughts about the Notre Dame tragedy & what it says about philanthropy...
ME: Just back from holiday- did someone say THREAD?!
Joking aside, I know plenty of people have already opined on this. But I’ve been on holiday & couldn’t bring myself to bore my family with my thoughts, so please cut me some slack.
