I’m officially no longer a Labor member, with today being the day a membership renewal was due.

I joined because I admired - didn’t always agree with - Dan Andrews as a leader.

Saw ALP governments everywhere I looked & wanted to join the conversation with a party of government. I was only there for a year, but now I’m out.

Partly because their best leader and politician in Andrews retired.

Major part because they refuse to increase JobSeeker.

A bigger reason is because they’re bought by fossil fuel companies.

And Palestine being another thing.

I still vividly remember my time on JobSeeker (or NewStart as it was called then).

The worst days of my life.

The lengths I had to go to in order to eat, or stay cool in hot, dry regional Australian summers, or warm in bitter winters.

1/20 The continual search for what remained of my dignity after yet another rejection from employment, despite a promising response at the interview.

You eventually you learn not to think “I might actually get this one!”

Because it isn’t as simple as “just get a job.”

I keep getting this, or variations of it: “why are you so anti-Labor”.

I’m not.

I’m pro solutions to problems.

I’m pro following the advice from experts who’s careers - so years of their lives - have been dedicated to their fields.

So I call Labor’s emissions reductions targets inadequate because that’s what the IPCC report and the evidence says it is, if we want to avoid over 1.5 degrees increase.
