Jerry Falwell Jr. just confirmed to me he has submitted his resignation to Liberty’s board.

“It’s a relief,” he said. “The quote that keeps going through my mind this morning is Martin Luther Ling Jr: ‘free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I’m free at last.” Falwell says he’s completely moving on from Liberty.

“I see a role in other areas, I don’t know what it is yet but I’m not done. This happened for a reason.”

Liberty Univeristy President Jerry Falwell Jr. is taking an indefinite leave of absence starting immediately. Allen McFarland, the vice-chair of Liberty's board, tells me he was not aware of this decision. McFarland is not a member of the board's executive committee.
