Hay season feels almost out of place to begin with. You’re starting to harvest a crop in May rather than later in the summer or fall like you would with produce or row crops. Many late nights in the countryside are being shared among neighbors as we pass each other in the fields.
You never know how much progress you will make day to day between equipment breakdowns and the varying yields of different tracts. The dew, wind, rain, and sun affect your next move constantly. All you can do is show up every day and read the world before you as you go.
