A thread on some of my takeaways from the SVB collapse. SVB is in my district, but I did not hesitate to tell them no when they lobbied hard for Donald Trump's bill to weaken Dodd-Frank. I voted against the bill. Too many Dems voted yes.
The run on SVB is a reminder of the need to impose strong financial regulations on banks. The Republican Party succeeded in passing the bill eviscerating Dodd-Frank against the warnings of progressives like myself and @BernieSanders.

In an age of sound bites, effectiveness and leadership still matter most. It simply cannot be overstated how influential @ewarren has been during this crisis and on the best parts of the House HEROES Act.
A thread on areas where she worked with House Dems to lead boldly ⬇️⬇️
Thanks to the leadership of @BobbyScott & @MaxineWaters, the HEROES Act has $10k in student debt cancellation, including for private loans. This is identical to the 3/20 proposal by @ewarren@ChuckSchumer@PattyMurray@SherrodBrown

.@BernieSanders has a simple SC message: racist voter suppression hurts low income whites & blacks by enabling electeds to oppose a living wage & healthcare. Stop the powers that be from using racism to sow division. Let’s build a coalition, black & white, for economic justice.
44% of people in South Carolina are poor or low income, including 36% of white people —many who live in the corridor of shame with failing public schools and poor wages. The income of the top 1% has increased in the state by 116% while the income of the 99% has declined by 5%.

Thank you @CoreyMoore_ for allowing me to share your powerful story which shows why we need Medicare for All.
Corey didn't have choice in his healthcare decisions.
Nobody should have to go through his struggle to get the care they need.
Please read the full thread below⬇️
Corey lives in Des Moines, IA and was born with Cerebral Palsy affecting his right side. When Corey was growing up, his father had excellent insurance.
Because he is unable to be gainfully employed, receiving the healthcare he needs has been a journey from day one.

China hasn’t been in a war since 1979 and invests in high-speed rail, broadband, renewables and universities.
America has only been at peace for 16 years of our history and spend trillions on overseas wars.
To lead in the 21st century, we have to start investing in our people.
I believe in American exceptionalism and that free enterprise democracy should be the model over China’s authoritarian capitalism. But our endless wars are hurting our strategic ability to win. Instead we need a Sputnik like mentality at home to mobilize for the new century.

President Jimmy Carter this weekend offered the most profound insights of any modern politician in what America must do to win the 21st century. “Since 1979, do you know how many times China has been at war with anybody?” Carter asked. “None. And we have stayed at war.”
“How many miles of high-speed railroad do we have in this country?” he asked. While China has some 18,000 miles of high-speed rail, the U.S. has “wasted, I think, $3 trillion” on military spending. “It’s more than you can imagine. China has not wasted a single penny on war.”
