amazon will no longer publish OUT OF NOWHERE because of book piracy: a thread.
amazon doesn't allow you to publish a book if it's available elsewhere for free.
they recently contacted me, linking to a pirate site where OUT OF NOWHERE was available. i immediately sent a takedown notice to the site, but it bounced back, as did one i sent to the parent site

a thread about the cumulative costs of self-publishing.
while i wait for IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMEWHERE to upload, i thought break down what it really means to self-publish a book if an author chooses to take their rights back or if a publisher closes.
i'm writing here about already-published books, which means they've already been written, edited, and have covers.
even starting from there, self-publishing involves a TON of other fiddly work.

currently revising and being reminded all over again how important it is to revise for characters' HABITS OF MIND. how people think is the most important thing about their POVs and figuring out how to communicate their thinking is key to genuine and consistent POV
does the character follow one thought through to conclusion or get distracted? do they shy away from any thoughts that bring up feelings and distract themselves with physical action, chores, checking their phone? does the character think mostly about themselves? only abt others?
