NEW - @JohnRustad4BC unveils a new BC forestry plan, which includes replacing the stumpage system with a value-added tax, altering the annual allowable cut, designating some forest areas prioritized for harvest to meet industry's needs. Says will bring stability to sector. Rustad says Conservatives will preserve "nearly two-thirds" of forested areas in original forestry state. Remaining 22m hectares "will be managed to achieve supply chain stability in BC's forest sector as well as to enhance biodiversity and ecological qualities."

NEW - A leaked memo from @Northern_Health instructs staff in hospitals to allow patients to use drugs in their hotel rooms, not seize their drugs, not seize any weapons with blades under 4" long and not restrict visitors even if they are bringing drugs into the hospital. These new policies are related to BC's decriminalization changes, with the health authority saying it's no longer an offence to posses these drugs so staff cannot do anything about it, drug use, dealing, weapons or other activity inside hospital rooms.

.@VancouverPD tomorrow will release a report it commissioned into spending on city's social safety net - a summary of which leaked this week.
I've read both now, and let me summarize them for you: Misleading fiction.
My latest @TheOrcaBC @Glacier_Media
biv.com/article/2022/1… This is one of the pages in the VPD summary of the report. I assume VPD will not release this summary tomorrow because it’s embarrassingly bad, and instead focus on the other 81 page report.

NEW: @Dave_Eby will shuffle cabinet and swear in a new group of ministers Dec. 7.
News comes as Eby announces the Nov. 18 swearing for himself will occur at the Musqueam Community Centre in Vancouver, after Victoria's Gov House had a scheduling conflict with a gala fundraiser. @Dave_Eby Let the cabinet speculation begin!

I know what you are thinking, I'm going to sit at my computer all night and tweet out the results of the Appadurai vote like this: Then I'm going to compose a long tweet thread about what it all means like this:

Spoke to @AnjaliApp this morning. She says the organizing she did in her campaign caught the party off guard, outworked the @Dave_Eby campaign, and now the party is "building towards a predetermined conclusion" by DQing her so Eby can win. @AnjaliApp @Dave_Eby "I think that what happened here is that I entered the race, wasn't considered a threat, went on to sign up thousands of new members to the party and at a certain point, it became clear that the number of memberships that I had brought into the party exceeded that of my opponent.

The report by Elizabeth Cull that recommends the DQ of @AnjaliApp draws a direct linkage to a plan by the Dogwood campaign and Avi Lewis raising money and memberships. Dogwood used direct paid resources and "it is clear Dogwood solicited fraudulent memberships." @AnjaliApp A lot of blame pinned directly at @avilewis and Kai Nagata in this report.

NDP leadership candidate @Dave_Eby has dropped his housing platform.
It’s huge, and represents one of the most sweeping shifts in BC housing policy I’ve seen.
Among the highlights... @Dave_Eby - A new anti-flipping tax on the resale of residential property within 2 years (with exemptions for death, divorce and other things)

Outgoing Speaker Darryl Plecas has produced a “Speaker’s Forum” report w/ recommendations for the #bcleg. It contains… many reforms that target the media, which, I should point out, the Speaker has no authority over. But.
I will summarize them in this thread. "Encourage the Legislative Press Gallery and other media to present news to the public more like an accessible briefing note on relevance and less like a story about villains and heroes.”

Report from @METLAkikwe finds no evidence of racist games in BC hospital ERs involving indigenous patients. However, she finds much larger concerns about systemic racism and discrimination in BC’s health care system. @METLAkikwe .@adriandix makes “an unequivocal apology” for the pain caused by racism within BC’s health care system, after release from report from @METLAkikwe

.@Wilkinson4BC quizzing @jjhorgan now on the “false choice” from gov that students either attend physically in Sept or withdraw to home schooling and distance education. Asks why schools can’t accommodate remote virtual learning as well. A common Q from parents. @Wilkinson4BC @jjhorgan “We are going to try and make this work for everybody. Whatever they need. If its in class or hybrid we will work it out,” says @jjhorgan
Then calls Wilkinson disrespectful and his suggestion incomprehensible. And then both sides start yelling at each other.

Lots of ppl emailing and tweeting me about this, and it’s become a political football, so let’s just dig into a bit more of the context on it so we can understand the debate better… 1/ First off, the WorkSafeBC surplus union and business has been fighting to spend for 18 years is not cash in a vault. It’s the gain and increase in the value of its investments over time. It exists the same way your RRSP gains exist - if and when at the moment you cash them out.

2nd reading of @Dave_Eby's bill to limit expert witness reports in ICBC cases just turned into a massacre as Eby dismantled in 5 minutes an hour's worth of Lib arguments on how inappropriate it is for an AG to fiddle with ICBC - by pointing out all the times the Lib gov did it. @Dave_Eby At one point @Dave_Eby pointed out how hypocritical the Liberal arguments are by saying it as is Liberal MLAs "just fell from space" into the chamber and didn't understand their own party's history of ICBC interference.

When I arrived at #bcleg 10 years ago, I clashed w/ MacMinn.
Asked him for basic $ details about MLA spending. Told no. Asked him for travel expenses. Told no. Asked to see #bcleg budget. Told no. There WERE no financial books.
So I doubt this is his accurate travel costs. I remember one year he was asked politely to curtail legislature spending. He was so upset he turned around and in step 1 fired the parliamentary player students who dress up annually as the Queen, Sir James Douglas, etc.
MLAs backed off after that poison pill.
