The Hologram rollout couldn't be going any better. The match with Mortos last night was absolutely KILLER. The presentation. The moves. The crowd reactions especially. It clicked on all cylinders. AEW's got something original & marketable here. Love to see it. I had early WCW Rey Jr flashbacks during the match. No no, I wouldn't do a disservice to Hologram comparing him to prime Rey. I mean Tony Schiavone's genuine reactions to what he was seeing was similar to Rey. Many "did he just do that?" moments. You could hear his amazement.

The headline is Stephanie Vaquer signs with WWE but there are so many subplots. It's the biggest story of the year in Mexico without a doubt, especially with how it seems to have went down. The fallout will effect many people. Vaquer has been working under some sort of CMLL contract. This isn't in question. But the abruptness of the departure w/ CMLL clearly being caught off guard and/or unable to prevent her immediate departure certainly throws into question how valid these contracts really are.

Seen some comments on this app recently about what's gonna happen to all the footage WWE bought up for their archives. There's no Network, no physical media, no reason for Netflix to ever put money/time/effort into it. Which of course got me thinking about the lucha equivalent... Since AAA has their own archive, IWRG infrequently shares from theirs & CMLL has who knows what (I still check YouTube daily for the promised Volador rookie matches, Alexis!) - the big archive out there is Mas Lucha who have been filming everything non-AAA/CMLL since roughly '07.

I didn't realize how packed Saturday was until just recently. Elimination Chamber, NJPW San Jose & Big Lucha all running exact same time. Not to mention Warrior & GCW both having matches I want to see - also concurrently. It's just not all possible. Decisions will be made. Also, Leafs + Cubs embarrassingly tweeting about AAA airing Rey de Reyes for the 2 people not watching any of the above.

I don't normally use my Twitter for stuff like this but I got permission from the individuals themselves to shed some light on a situation many may not be aware of. I don't expect my voice to be loud enough to impact anything but sometimes Twitter works in mysterious ways. In mid-2021 both Aramis & Arez signed multi-year contracts w/ MLW. The circumstances behind that were largely they felt pressured into doing so or risk losing their regular work in Mexico. There were also many empty promises made by MLW itself which I won't go more into for now.

We are ready for RIOT! Whenever lucha time dictates it will be RIOT time. 🤣 First match 805pm! Not bad!

Haven't done my due diligence checking with people for the CHISME but immediate reaction to the Negro Casas jump is it likely doesn't happen if CMLL is open to bringing Psycho in. There was smoke to the fire of him having one foot out of AAA. Actions have consequences. Negro Casas is an old man on his last legs. He wants to team with his son in law so his grandkids can watch them together. Maybe even with Tropicasas (still alive!) involved for the 4 generations photo op. He hadn't been shy about it & it was never gonna happen in Arena Mexico.

With the dust settled from the press conference earlier it seems we're in for another year of AAA focusing on 3 major shows w/ rest of the schedule being TV content using whomever happens to be available. There's no attempt to maximize what AAA could be. Just running in place. Which is fine. AAA is a company running on the illusion right now. Whoever puts together these video packages & marketing pamphlets are the real MVPs, not Psycho Clown. Any sponsor watching the presentations comes away thinking AAA is hot, arenas are full, money is being made.

The war of midget/mini/dwarf groups has seemingly intensified in 2023.

It used to be all about MicroMania vs Extreme Midget Wrestling. Both groups run regularly, are bitter enemies like WWF vs WCW or AAA vs CMLL. Mascarita Dorada/Torito recently jumped from EMW to MicroMania. EMW picked up Chamuel from CMLL & Ultimonito/Mini Maximo from Torreon.

Now a new group has appeared on the scene called Extreme Dwarfinator Wrestling. This group has Micro Man, Guapito, Mini Absimo Negro & Gallito amongst others.

It's getting crowded out there!

AEW has a perception issue. Had it from day one. It isn't just to be accepted at the WWE level in the mainstream, it's also to be taken seriously within the pro wrestling bubble. Both continue to be equally hard to overcome. TNA/Impact was never able to do it. Wrestlers have grown up on only WWE, they see that as the *only* big league in town. So you have these MFs who spend years not even questioning the booking. They are fine going 6 months losing every match on RAW. You can get mad but you never push back. You're in the big leagues.

The manipulation in this one is strong. Has everyone convinced he's their buddy & how he's been wronged.

I know 2 guys from outside CDMX who came to Bandido's Gym to train for a week, met Banks, raved about him & his generosity. "He just wants to help us" was the direct quote. Sure enough they then casually mentioned before leaving Banks pushed them both to help him get bookings in their area of Mexico. So much for just wanting to help, eh?

I said it before & will say it again - Banks showing up on Bandido's Gym doorstep was no mistake.

Have you ever heard of Kron & Thor aka Los Vikingos? Probably not. Very obscure reference even the most hardcore of lucha libre folks would recognize. Well stick with this thread if you want to hear about their legendary Arena Mexico run which fits into one entire tweet. So I'm listening to this interview with lucha legend Americo Rocca who basically worked his entire career in EMLL/CMLL rings from 1975-2001. During the interview he brings up good friend Franco Colombo, the long time head of the CMLL programming (booking) department.

An open secret & pretty big deal. Micro Man leaving basically renders the entire CMLL micros division obsolete. The division itself is unimportant but... it was Ultimo Guerrero's baby. His name was attached to the entire concept. Micro Man choosing to leave is a slap in his face. So this goes beyond Micro Man walking away from a job for life (he was going to get the Monito gimmick from his dad eventually). UG has all the power in CMLL. Whenever he made this decision, it was an extremely brave one. Or dumb one depending who you ask obviously.

Interesting interview w/ Winners II aka the "stand-in" Abismo Negro for a time period & future final version of Ultimo Vampiro. He tells the long rumored story that isn't really discussed much in lucha circles but is 100% true. Some still won't accept it.

First discusses his history working as Diamante Azul as a rookie, as Neblina in Arena Naucalpan (before the future Star Boy made the gimmick more famous), then as Caballero del Ring which was the name he entered AAA with on recommendations from Rambo & May Flowers.

I know I'm speaking into the void here because it's just lucha libre so who gives a shit, right? Very few watching tonight give a fuck more than 2x year - which actually ties into what happened tonight. That AAA Tag Title change was a total disgrace. This isn't even an AEW issue, this is 100% an AAA issue as usual. Replace AAA with NJPW. Imagine NJPW ever allowing two of their top guys to lose this way or having a 2+ year title reign end outside Japan with no plan on what the follow-up will be. Wouldn't happen.

Around 2007 Mistico was the hottest wrestler on the planet. CMLL wanted him to start carrying around many titles, but titles that actually had merit. So they reached out to Vangelis who was the Mexican National Light Heayweight champion. How did he get that title? Nobody knows. He's listed as defeating El Dandy for it but there is no evidence any match took place. It's possible Vangelis purchased the title off him (Dandy went through rough times) or CMLL bought it (Dandy is blacklisted) & gave it to Vangelis just so Mistico could win it from him.

Had to rewatch the cage match from yesterday. Still amazing. Easy *****. Stand by my statement Lucha Bros/Bucks should not wrestle a tag again. That was the perfect peak to their feud going back to the first PWG meeting. The post-match was so emotional as a fan of those two... It took me back to Night 3 BOLA 2018. As I was saying bye to Fenix I took a moment to tell him no matter what happens I'm happy how far they've both come & will always support them no matter where they end up. But I was just so sad in that moment thinking what the future held.
