Ok so here’s what happened last night while you were not watching the NFL media sausage get made: Dalvin Cook’s agent, Zac Hiller, wanted to get in front of a lawsuit filed last night in Minnesota alleging Dalvin Cook assaulted a former girlfriend, among other accusations. So Hiller went to the person he knew would do absolutely zero digging if presented a scoop: Adam Schefter.

It’s very hard to comprehend what happened to Sage Steele, specifically how or why she sees herself as simultaneously “color-blind” and some sort of arbiter of Blackness, who can criticize Barack Obama for identifying as Black, given her very public family history with racism. Her father integrated Army football when he became the first black starter at West Point in 1966. His family endured housing discrimination before that. Sage's white grandparents ex-communicated her white mother for six years for marrying a black man. westpointcoh.org/interviews/sta…

My dad died two days ago. I'm going to share a part of his life that was important, but didn't define him. His kindness did that. He immigrated from Germany as a young boy, the son of a Ukrainian WW2 refugee and a U.S. Army officer with a family in the States. His mother, a bulldog, wrote letters to this officer until he agreed to help them come to America on the condition that she never contact him again.

The Post obtained an audio recording of a video conference between worried college football players and SEC medical officials

“It’s not good enough.”

washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/08… At one point on the call, a player asks, “If we were your kids, would y’all let us play?”

One medical official answers by saying he’s letting his kids play baseball and soccer.

I’ve had people ask me what it’s like trying to get these interviews with Trump supporters/Covid deniers as a black person, wearing a mask, working for The Post... About 20% of Trump supporters say something like “Fake news, no thanks” and we go our separate ways. Sometimes they want to argue about it, and I just walk away.

Quick story: for a piece on Gallup, NM shutting out visitors, I went to the nearby Navajo nation where they’ve had one of the worst outbreaks and officials were handing out supplies. There was a young woman shooting the scene. Got her cell and connected her with our photo editor. She’s fantastic. She’s Navajo, a journalism major at U of New Mexico, and she’s been shooting this crisis on the reservation out of a need to document the crisis. Her work is remarkable. @Schischillyy: ImageImageImage

Last month was the first March without a school shooting in the United States since 2002. And it came damn close in March 2002. One of a handful of close calls that month:

Yesterday, Sports Illustrated terminated dozens of incredible journalists who take with them a level of passion and talent for storytelling I was constantly in awe of. Update...

A statement from attorney for our source:

The NFL advised us that the Patriots directed Mr. Brown to have no further contact with our client, either directly or through his associates.... "The NFL also advised us that it contacted Mr. Brown’s representative and reiterated that Mr. Brown was to cease and desist efforts to contact or intimidate our client."

New tonight: Antonio Brown sent our source from Monday’s story menacing group text messages, including a picture of her children with instructions for his associates to investigate her.

Her lawyer wrote the NFL calling for the intimidation to stop. si.com/nfl/2019/09/19… Explainer on the process of verifying it was AB who sent these messages:

1. In 2017, AB sent our source his phone number in a DM from his verified IG account in screenshots we reviewed.

2. She communicated with AB and arranged travel, etc via this number that year.

a thread:

My mom, Dr. Lisa Bradley, retired this week after 35 years at the U. of Maryland. A veterinarian, she started as an instructor and was soon elevated to pre-med advisor for all medical tracts. She later led that office, then became assistant dean for life sciences. She personally advised over 5,000 students who went on to become doctors. She forged relationships with HBCUs across the country, eventually elevating Maryland into a Top 10 public institution in the country in sending African Americans to med schools.

I’ve been thinking about this for a number of days and while I don’t feel 100% prepared to deliver remarks, deliver I must. For those tempted to unfollow, please excuse this temporary lack of brevity. 1/437 This scene in the Wire when Bodie and McNulty are having sandwiches in a garden and Bodie finally comes to terms with his role in the Baltimore ecosystem: "We like them little bitches on the chess board."
