One piece of the Why Isn't There Left Content Online To Counter The Right is that as soon as lefty video essayists get a patreon, they start making 1 carefully scripted, staged, & shot video every year or so, while right wing YouTube guys pump out seven hours of rage bait a week Lots of criticism about contrapoints, but she was very effective, for a time, in deradicalizing incels and/or in preventing incel radicalization. Unfortunately in the time between one video about incels and another about JK Rowling, right wing YouTubers would have posted hundreds

woman claims "you guys just call everyone nazis! My husband isn't a nazi!" I ask if I can ask her questions about her husbands beliefs. Reveal afterwards that I've just been going through Eco's 14 points of fascism. Maddest i have ever made anyone online lol. she's still going a fun bit is that several hours in she was still pretending to know who Umberto Eco was and pretending to have read Ur-Fascism while extremely clearly having no idea what I was talking about. she's read a few parts now, grappling with it, deciding that actually Eco's on her side

@cherpers @emilykmay sure, we all know that fascism is about mischaracterization moreso than it is about foreign others, traditionalism, sexual purity, and so on @cherpers @emilykmay before I head out for the day, can I ask what specific brand of protestant you are? This isn't a gotcha, it's just out of curiosisity

In 2016, in 2020, and now, the liberal line has been repeatedly “how could so many people reach this conclusion??” They think differently. That’s it. Stop applying your logic to the situation. Your political opponents operate within a different paradigm. look. let's talk about the squirrel for a second. If you're a liberal who thought: this is so weird! how on earth would cops killing a cute pet be read as a *conservative* cause, you fell into the trap I'm talking about, the trap of assuming everything thinks in the same way.

They like his vibe. They think putting a 100% tariff on China will make eggs cost less. They think deporting legal, documented immigrants will make it possible for middle class people to own houses again. They think fortnite is too woke. Stop trying to reason this out In 2016, in 2020, and now, the liberal line has been repeatedly “how could so many people reach this conclusion??” They think differently. That’s it. Concerning Absolute Batman and Ultimate comics:

when the original Ultimate Universe first launched, there were two approaches to rebooting the titles, the Bendis Approach and the Millar Approach. Both made changes to characters and concepts, but with different reasons. Bendis' seemed to ask the question "what can I change that will help things get to the *essence* of the original?"

The Green Goblin and Doc Ock get tied into Spider-Man's origin because they're his primary antagonists. The change leads to a cleaner version of the original.

there are three kinds of people who read superhero comics, and normal people only know about the first two: 1. the guy who just likes superhero stories, thinks the genre is fun, & 2. the guy who just likes reading stuff he read as a kid, finds the genre nostalgic. But the third-- The third is so wild. The third is someone who, if you're being generous, reads these stories because they have developed complex internal Lore about a fictional character (either/ both about the character's Power Levels and Personality) and needs to have that Lore validated.

No he doesn’t. That is the opposite of true Elon Musk, do u think The Batman dresses up as a bat to share with superstitious and cowardly criminals a special interest of his that he loves a lot

no he wasn't. that's not true, agnes callard the weirdest thing about agnes callard to me is that every interaction she describes with her student lover sounds exactly like the romantic interactions that teenagers had at my nerd college as they read aristotle for the first time

tried to watch WOMEN TALKING today, will actually watch it some time this week, but man, in the first 10 minutes you already have a character doing Reddit Atheist commentary, to which another responds, "let's stay on track." the dialogue is so baffling it's unclear to me right now what time period this takes place in, but it's at the very least an illiterate luddite cult removed from civilization and some of the women sound like they're at a Board Meeting, whereas the more religious ones barely have a religious vocabulary

This interview is incredible. She’s like “none of the dialogue made sense so I just rewrote it” and then “I didn’t expect it to be popular, really it only found an audience because compared to the slop constantly shoveled out now we [I] spent a few seconds thinking about things” Image to be clear i think this rules
