Sometimes emancipatory frameworks that are meant to usurp dominant ways of relating are weaponised by people who want to avoid accountability or have difficult conversations. Often multiply marginalised people can be culprits because of harmful behaviours that helped them survive Like of course, structurally oppressed and marginalised people can exhibit harmful behaviours towards others in community with them. They’ve been trying to exist in a society that gives them no nourishment or care. But it doesn’t justify the way they can manipulate language etc

Fellow settlers are applauding ALPs support for Uluru statement and constitutional recognition. I know there was a walk out by many Elders and that the statement is backed by a number of fossil fuel companies but would like some resources that I can use to guide convos It would be good for settlers to hold off on celebrating the announcement and maybe sit back and consider the different opinions from First Nations communities as well as alternatives they propose. First Nations people, as they have always said, are not a monolithic group

A lot of us are thinking it but action on climate change doesn’t = land rights or climate justice. A lot of the teal MPs will push for neoliberal market solutions with an anti-immigration agenda. Creating a fish hook right into eco-fascism. Need to respond accordingly This in combination with the ALPs penchant for leaving poor people without adequate social security, and orchestrating new methods to put people seeking help in prisons, is going to be a recipe for disaster if we’re not careful about what we’re asking for

I bumped into an old friend from high school. She reminded me of how I told my story in front of my year level at the age of 13 about fleeing Iraq & all the difficulty we had rebuilding our life & the teachers not acknowledging or saying anything and moving onto a group activity And then the students spent the rest of the week long camp accusing me of making it up and being an attention seeker. And how that went on for ages unbenknownst to me. And I just want to say: fuck telling your story. No one deserves all of you. You don’t deserve to be consumed

Like most health crisis, the West will use everything in its power to deny the global south life saving health care and medicine even though people in the global south were used in initial trials of the vaccine. Every persons death from this virus is a calculated decision. Not to mention the likes of @gatesfoundation pressuring Oxford towards a partnership with AstraZeneca which then changed it’s initial open source licence to an exclusive one. Denying countries the opportunity to produce cheaper generic versions. Disaster capitalism at its finest

Hey fellow cis, things are really heating up for trans people, especially for trans women. The discourse is getting more vicious every day and it only doubles down on the oppression trans women face in their every day lives. It’s imperative we push back every where. I’m thinking about the vitriol that has been a main stay in UK politics, and see all the same tactics playing out. We fucked up during the marriage equality campaign, we let trans people become scape goats. But we can stop the current wave from accelerating.

This year has been so tough (more so for some than others) and I anticipate next year will be worse. But I was just reminiscing about some of my favourite parts of the year, so indulge me while I share... The first few weeks of lockdown where everyone tried to make zoom parties happen and we were all on houseparty dropping in on convos with people we hardly know.

I’m so rageful at the bullshit, contempt & violence trans people experience every day. It’s just so unfair. How fragile is this cis patriarchal world that we try to subjugate people who just want to live and thrive outside of the gender binary. Stop killing the people we love! It’s unacceptable that trans people have to live like this. The constant hyper vigilance must be so draining. Even worse if they are a woman, Black and/or disabled.

I try not to misdirect or appropriate anger when it’s not my experience, but my heart is so heavy right now!

Excuse me? You cannot police people out of a pandemic. This is horrific. Firstly, imagine how these announcements frighten people and make them feel too worried about the attention and stigma of testing positive.

If you're a victim of police misconduct during stage 3 shutdown, here is a tool that can help you. Increasing police discretionary powers during a pandemic will mean particular communities are going to be unfairly targeted, over policed, face prison time. We need accountability. Here are some tips via @VicLegalAid about talking to the police legalaid.vic.gov.au/find-legal-ans…

*How to hold broadcast media accountable for false racist reporting*
(A step by step thread) Before anything, keep an eye on the safety of black people in your community. There is often a spike in hate crimes when racist reports are broadcasted.
