I hate the way Skid Row is casually discussed by some in the #findingHannah #HannahKobayashi conversation as being a depressing hopeless place. Skid Row has been intentionally disenfranchised and yet it’s one of the only places in the USA that will feed you no matter who you are FOR FREE & help you find a blanket & place to rest. It has been INTENTIONALLY abandoned & disenfranchised by government. Did you know Skid Row fought for YEARS just to get its own @EmpowerLA neighborhood council, which it STILL does not have? I only know this because in 2017

CW This is gonna sound gross but all the unhoused people I know have MRSA/staph abscesses on our legs that get stuck to our jeans and make a very painful irritating situation that keeps reoccurring... Is there a medical supply or treatment known for this very particular issue?? I'm thinking like nonstick pads or something? They can get more even more inflamed or irritated if too dry or harsh cleaners like undiluted peroxide are used on them

I find they do best when exposed to air but most of us like to wear jeans bc we r in public too much for shorts.

I’m waiting on 2022 numbers for W&I § 5150s that were carried out by LAPD, but here’s what I learned about the 2018-2021 figures that were provided to me via CPRA/FOIA on City of LA @nextrequest An orange pill capsule with +5150 LAPD printed in it by @rooflesser 51,404 total W&I § 5150 psychiatric holds were used by LAPD over 4 years (2018-2021)

There were 2,708 more PEH in LA County in Feb 22 as there were 25 months prior, in Jan 20. (+4%)

1,988 PEH died during Year 1 of COVID-19 (Apr 20 - Mar 21). In 2021, 1,612 PEH died. Jan-Mar 2021 overlap, but Jan-Mar 2020 aren’t included, & nor are Jan-Feb 22, so I’ll add the 2 That’s a perfect 3,600 to approximate PEH deaths in LA County between the 2020 & 2022 PIT Counts.

That means homelessness decreased by 5.4% during that 25-month timespan due to PEH death.

That also means the 4% increase was actually +9.4%

In January, an LAPD officer resigned after it was revealed that he/she/they:

“On and off duty, maintained an inappropriate social relationship with a certain citizen, who employee knew or should have known, was involved in illegal activity with a criminal street gang….”…THEN, “During a compelled interview, provided a false statement to Department investigators when employee stated that certain citizen was never invited to their birthday party.”🥳😳😤

I think “wrap-around services” are an expensive lie that:
-Allow homeless housing nonprofits (which should not exist, because they are redundant. Housed homeless people are simply “people”.) to charge 2x market rents
-Tell housed neighbors not to check up on the residents’ needs -sugar-coats the heavy surveillance residents are likely under & the paternalistic structure that NP’s implement

Reminder that an unhoused man and woman living in two tents on a sidewalk were struck by a car and killed in early August,

right as LAMC § 41.18 was being expanded to tell us over 1000 more sidewalks we cannot live on.

Also: The car that lost control was being chased by LAPD.😧 It was Wednesday August 3 at 12:40pm. The woman was asleep in her tent & the man was in a tent next to her.

“Meanwhile, a witness told ABC7 she saw the suspect getting chased by police. She said the crash happened when he hit the corner.”

With all the encampments that have been broken up & PRK’s that kicked people out, drove people to leave, relocated &/or prematurely shut down, + Encampment2Home, Tiny Shed Villages & now LAMC 41.18 criminalization, it has been very hard for the displaced to get & stay in contact. It is hard to know if something has happened to someone when they don’t/can’t have a “home base”, (anything: a spot in public where they are known to sit or sleep, or a corner where they fly a sign 🪧, or where they stash their belongings…) because they are being criminalized…!

Pallets, blocks & boards below you & tarps above!! & all your bedding, clothes & papers in big clear plastic bags, if possible! Make yourself a little cave & keep your electronics in a Zip-lock!! Keep warm with wool, down, & Mylar + layers! Stock up on food & drinks + 💦 cups! You’ll be okay as long as you don’t get wet. Hopefully you have a whole, intact tent with a rain fly + a tarp or a decent roof on your shed/tiny house + a tarp. If you’re in a non-leaky vehicle just stay warm & dry. Everyone who died of hypothermia in LA was damp💔🥶[@ShotOn35mm]

LAPD #37285 just allowed @venicenc to violate the Brown Act by not taking any public comments on a presentation about stolen bicycles that perpetuated racist stereotypes.

It was an agenda item that did not specify that comments were to be submitted in advance.
@OIGLABOPC LAFD just violated as well. They announced that trash fires, rubbish fires and encampment fires are now the same thing to them. I mean tell us how you really feel.

LAFD invited suggestions then thanked the meeting Chair for not making them take any & dipped out, my hand was up
