The rescue I help run has rehomed 30 Great Pyrs in 2022 & is caring for that many now. We've been asked to help 347 dogs as of today. Just 1 breed in the Carolinas in 2022. We say "no" to several dogs each day. Our county shelter system is totally overwhelmed, & the people trying to help are understaffed & underresourced. Even good shelters are PTSing good dogs for lack of space.

Other breed rescues have it worse. For every homeless Great Pyr, there's a few dozen bullies in need.

All but one of the Davidson College alum who have sent a letter calling for "any required books or reading be inclusive of politically different & opposing views" attended while Prof. Chalmers Gaston Davidson was faculty in the History Department. Alum of the class of '28, Davidson was a professor of History between 1936 & 1975. A scholar of the Antebellum South, he researched the white planter families of this region & wrote a biography of General William Lee Davidson, after whom the college is named.
