There is a beautiful new bridge in Ottawa, Canada. It’s lit up at night, so it’s a stunning way to cross this canal and see a gorgeous sunset at the same time. But there’s a wee problem. tw//spiders

The lights draw in insects, so spiders have happily spun webs on every light. And the position of the lights means that the entire bridge casts ENORMOUS MOVING SPIDER SHADOWS along its entire length

Folks are asking me about this viral photo of a magical rainbow... pigeon? Dove? What is it? Let me explain, as someone who is writing a book on pigeons and is now 95% pigeon. First, this is indeed a real photo of a Pink-necked Green-pigeon, Treron vernans, native to parts of South East Asia. Yes, it's real, and it's beautiful. I found the photographer, Chong Lip Moon:

This past weekend I was talking with a guy who's worried about climate change. He's super conscientious, but is a busy dad, and doesn't think there's anything he can do. This is an awful, helpless feeling. Let's fix it. Here's a list of things you can do. 1. Talk/post/tweet about it. Surveys show that most people are worried about climate change, but we're scared to talk about it, which makes us feel isolated and creates a spiral of silence (see @KHayhoe's writing on this). By talking, my friend was already taking action.

What kills me about this all-male video is that I hear people ask where the female equivalent of Bill Nye or Carl Sagan is hiding. And the thing is, she's not hiding. Twitter is PACKED with amazing women who make science videos, books, art, comics. They're right here. Hear them. I mean holy crow, we've got videos by @ehmee and @zentouro and podcasts from @Ologies and @sciencevs and @Gastropodcast and books by @beatricebiology and @mary_roach and there are SO MANY OF YOU rocking science twitter, like @drmichellelarue and @AstroKatie and and and and and
