📌GAO Found Service members separated from the military without an honorable discharge can apply to a post-separation review board for a possible discharge upgrade due to a potential error or injustice in the process.

📌In 2014 & 2017, the Department of #Defense (DOD) directed these boards to give “liberal consideration” to applications from veterans with a qualifying mental health condition, such as post-traumatic stress disorder or an experience of sexual #harassment or sexual assault connected to their service.

📌 DODs’ post-separation review boards have implemented liberal consideration &, from January 2018 through March 2024, applied it to more than 21,000 discharge upgrade cases. #1🧵I received a copy of #RichardAllen's probable cause affidavit (PCA) from a government employee a few months ago. It was only 7 pages. While it had the missing page 8, but it was inexplicably missing a page in the middle. The pages aren't numbered like the redacted version that was released to the public. But the language is the same. I cannot explain these discrepancies.

I've spent months trying to track down the complete PCA & find out why page 8 was missing. I don't know if it was purposely withheld or if it was withheld by mistake. I haven't been able to get answers from Carroll County or Allen County. I'm going to post the copy I received & the redacted copy released by the so you can compare them.

These are my takeaways:
#1 The PCA was signed by then-Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Liggett & dated Oct. 27, 2022.
#2 "Investigators believe Richard M. Allen committed this kidnapping which resulted in the killing of Victim 1 and Victim 2."
#3 Tony Liggett's name was redacted from page 7 of the original PCA.

Marina Hierl made national headlines in 2017 when she became the first woman to graduate the Marine Corps’ Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, Virginia, earning the 0302 Infantry Officer military occupational specialty in the process.

Not only was Hierl the first woman in an MOS that had been restricted to men just 2 years earlier; she had also made it through the grueling 13 weeks of IOC, a feat of physicality and endurance that many previously thought was beyond the capability of women.

But since then, even without the press releases and news profiles, women have continued to graduate from IOC in small, but consistent, numbers.

According to data from the last 4 years provided to Marine Corps Times, women are now making it through the course with a success rate of better than 50%, though the number of volunteers opting to attend IOC remains low.
