Can someone explain me why the paragraph about "risk to general public" looks cut away in DEFUSE?

We know that the proposal was rejected because lacking an appropriate DURC risk mitigation plan.
Was it really lacking?

@alisonannyoung @centerstreet Great work Alison! Did you eventually find out on which kind of SARS related coronavirus Bavari and Totura were working on when Fort Detrick was shut down?
trialsitenews.com/a/fort-detrick… @alisonannyoung @centerstreet "Ms. Totura and Mr. Bavari essentially warned governments back in 2018 to start acting now when they noted that governments’ currently must “produce medical countermeasures that can protect vulnerable populations against known coronaviruses (SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV)..

Worth reading: "As I see it, the most pressing question on Covid origins at present – which could be answered without any cooperation from China at all – is what the U.S. is hiding by all its obfuscation and refusal to cooperate or investigate" "The fact that U.S. intelligence community analysts have claimed to have been tracking the virus since Nov 2019, despite it being clear that the outbreak was not detectable at the time, have given many cause for suspicions about how the U.S. knew about the outbreak at that point"

@virologyanon @WHO I agree that some studies may be confounded by cross-reactivity, so it’s important to verify them as I wrote above. However, considering how many articles concluded that SARS2 circulated outside China before Wuhan I really doubt that it’s only due to contamination. @virologyanon @WHO We have so far:
1 sample in France positive for SARS2 RNA by RT-PCR in December 2019

“UNFORTUNATELY, although understandable in the current circumstances, as new EVALI updates are not being issued by the CDC, and cases are declining, the exact causes of the outbreak, which are probably multifactorial, are likely to remain uncertain.”

thelancet.com/journals/lanre… " Owing to the declining incidence of EVALI cases and the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC updates were stopped in February. However...concerns have been raised about the convergence of vaping, and its effects, with COVID-19 infection—especially in young people."

Oh look, a review of EVALI case reports from outside the US shows once more that the CDC was wrong when blaming vitamin E acetate as very likely cause for EVALI.
Only 24% of the 17 international cases from 13 countries used cannabinoid-based products. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… We can’t surely exclude that SARS2 in combination with vaping was the real cause. It should be finally investigated.

The first cluster of SARS2 cases was detected in Wuhan.

There is no question about that but…does this mean that SARS2 surely originated there?

No, it does not. By comparing the phylogenetic trees of SARS1 and SARS2 built with the first sequences available, it is clear that SARS2, on the right, is missing the phase of human adaptation which was present in SARS1.

Are we really sure that a project similar to DEFUSE or part of it was not funded by DARPA after a first rejection?
On this page

the document HR001118S0017 is the grant to which Daszak, Baric, WIV & co. applied for. DEFUSE was rejected in the form that we know but DARPA expressed interest and wrote that “There are several components of great interest in this proposed effort that are potentially fundable should additional funding become available.”

1/I keep receiving over and over the same comments on EVALI. “The cases were too young to be COVID!” “It was caused by vitamin E acetate!” “It has nothing to do with COVID”! I demonstrated in my article that these arguments are not valid but it seems to be the time to make a 🧵 2/First of all, what is EVALI? The name (E-Cigarette, or Vaping Product, Use–Associated Lung Injury) was invented by the CDC to describe an epidemic of “severe lung disease” with most cases identified in the US.

Oh that’s interesting. I ended up on this page grants.gov/web/grants/vie… related to Defuse (HR001118S0017) and the file HR001118S0017.pdf reports: "Proposers must describe scalable approaches to deliver the preemptive therapeutic to achieve animal and/or vector population-level control of the targeted virus including strategies for reaching less accessible animal reservoirs (e.g., rodents or non-human primates)"

I have asked @Ayjchan to prove that pre-pandemic EVALI samples in the US were not caused by COVID as she is sure that SARS2 did not originate from a lab in the US. NIH concluded that EVALI may have been caused by a virus. Waiting for her answer.
And BTW I am not saying that the US created SARS2 alone and "unleashed" it to Wuhan, as she suggests. If SARS2 has a lab origin it is likely the product of a collaboration and the World Military Games in Wuhan could easily explain a cluster of cases there.

Wow! An unbiased article which asks transparency also about research activities in the US that may be involved in SARS2’s origin!
By Neil L. Harrison and Jeffrey D. Sachs 👏👏👏
pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… Image “Yet a US-based investigation need not wait—there is much to learn from the US institutions that were extensively involved in research that may have contributed to, or documented the emergence of, the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”

Where and when SARS2 originated in the US? WA1 was not the first introduction in the US (19.01.20), as described in this paper nejm.org/doi/10.1056/ne… because SARS2 in the Washington State was already more evolved than WA1, having two additional mutations
This *first* WA1 case in the US travelled back from China, but WA1 has not been found associated to the Huanan market. WA1 matches the deleted sequences retrieved by Bloom but they are partial and ORF1ab should also be analysed

"Records show that during the five years before the pandemic began, at least six UNC researchers were required to undergo medical monitoring following four incidents where they were potentially exposed to what the NIH now confirms were types of lab-created SARS coronaviruses." December 2019

@itsmercadante What’s happening to Andersen & co.? It was not enough that they tried to stop any investigation into the possibility of a lab accident at the beginning of the pandemic.
@itsmercadante They continue after 2 years to push for a natural origin using partial dataset and ignore other data that point to an earlier origin than in the market.
Here my commets on the two preprints.

Do you want to know more about SARS2’s origin?

Investigate the October 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan.

There is too much secrecy around it.

It could have been the first SARS2 super-spreader event.

I have not seen any result from this investigation by the US Congress

Many unanswered questions also from @JamieMetzl

Why Wuhan was a ghost town during that period?

Yes, the silence of Baric is very odd.

He was the one in charge of testing the insertion of human-specific cleavage sites in SARS related coronaviruses.

He should tell us which appropriate sequence he had in mind.

As I have been recently defined as one of the silliest of the furin cleavage site truthers, I have to summarize here why I consider it a possible sign of manipulation in SARS2’s genome.
1. It is not present in any other known SARS related coronavirus.
