Interesting questions here that every RPG system should have an answer for.

I will make a small thread on RPGs as negative space and the importance of time as the ultimate unifying dimension: The gameworld represented in an RPG campaign is a great void with tiny pockets of structure given explicitly by the rules. For the rest, we're supposed to import the axioms/assumptions from the real world.

What does this mean, practically? Image

"I have wanted to displace the West Marches thing for years now and finally somebody else has suggested that it’s actually happening."

The West Marches concept was smart at the time, but it was immediately transfigured by the dullest minds in RPGs.🧵 Stay alert for bad actors who will twist 'Braunstein' into another deformed pillar of mono-party play. Even documentary man has shown his willingness to do so, out of pure spite.

But there is much to say about Braunsteins.

Since I have written a lot on this subject to clarify timekeeping issues and questions people have, I will address whether 1:1 time (as recommended and executed by BrOSR) is exactly what Gary intended. In conclusion, 1:1 time as described by the BrOSR is the only method that is consistent with every timekeeping example given in AD&D.

You can stop reading here if that's all you wanted to know.

I'm getting too many followers—cramping my quiet, shy aesthetic—so it's time for a thread.

TTRPGs are DISCOVERED rather than CREATED.🧵 Every TTRPG, by virtue of its inherent qualities, begins with an establishing question. The ANSWER to that question forms the game's Hierarchy of concepts.

As soon as this Hierarchy is found, there's almost nothing left to do but DISCOVER what supports it (and what doesn't). Image
