😆 Friends, Southern Baptists, & Evangelicals - lend me your eyes!

Here's a thread to show you a side-splitting tale of liars failing to keep their lies straight.

Start here: @BaptistPress running propaganda to cover for Howe's egalitarianism.

(1/)baptistpress.com/resource-libra… Check out this bit from @NatoParker. Read it carefully, more carefully than he & @Jonathan_Howe did.

What stands out?

Howe is a notorious company man who has run BP as a propaganda arm for the worst elements in the SBC.

He & his wife are members of perhaps the most historically liberal church still associated with the SBC.

And she is on staff as a minister.

Let's take a further look.

(1/) From Beth Howe's Job Description:

- The Minister of Students and Discipleship will be responsible for Student Ministry and church-wide discipleship while carrying on general pastoral duties as outlined below.

Did you see the horror story about Bruce Ashford - former @SEBTS Provost, Rising SBC Star, & Platform Made Man - appear a few days ago, get some attention, then go completely quiet?

Why the sudden silence?

Because the story exposes the highest profile Southern Baptists.

(1/) You may need a reminder on who Ashford is due to his rise to stardom being suddenly aborted. Again, he was an @SEBTS man, aiming his attention outside Provost duties at Christian approaches to culture & politics.

According to the CDC, marriages in the United States were at a 20 year low in 2019. There were 2,015,603 marriages in 2019. That’s about 300,000 less marriages than in 2000. Yet, the population increased by 48,062,217 from 2000 to 2019, but marriages decreased by 300,000. 1/4 And that’s not the worst part. We’ve been on a steady decline for the percentage of people getting married in America for the past 40 years, with 2019 being the lowest percentage of marriages on record for 120 years (not counting 2020 due to how Covid affected the numbers). 2/4

Greenway actually didn't get this talking point from Draper. At least not at first.

He's trying to launder the idea in SBC circles.

Let's see where he got it & the SBC notables lining up behind him to help sell it.

First, where Greenway got the criticism of fundies:

[1/] Here's a good starting point. Pittman, a cornerstone member of the SBC Trust Fund set, capitalizing on their dad's name & coattails for a ride to both prominence and very comfortable employment in the SBC.

You are now expected to act as if the SATF report confirmed every allegation or vague reference to abuse that has ever been made.

It is hard to tell if the people pushing that expectation do so because they are simply uninformed or are willing to be cynically manipulative.

(1/) The SATF found the accusations against Johnny Hunt. It also found that Augie Boto had a collection of links to news articles. Everything else was known by the survivor community & those who read them.

But we're supposed to act like it confirms every allegation ever made.

Lots of reply guys & gals have leveled the accusation that people like those of us @ SBCU see signs of drift at @SEBTS & with President @DannyAkin are making these accusations up out of whole cloth.

Can we talk about that? Take a look at this 🧵please.

(1/) Ms. (not sure if Mrs. so going w/ Ms.) Parsons is critical of Dr. Akin's material in God on Sex (published June 2003).

She sees it as mysogynistic.

Pay attention to the timeline:

March 26

- Tom Buck goes to Willy Rice in private to notify him of an abuser deacon.

- Willy Rice tells Tom Buck he wants to talk to some trusted SBC leaders and thanks Tom Buck in an email. March 27

- An anonymous email account distributes Jennifer Buck's rough draft to media outlets

March 28

- @BruceFrank1, head of the SATF, contacts Willy Rice.

April 1

- Willy Rice releases his video saying everything was taken care of, and stays in the race

Adam Wyatt (@pastor_adam) has three problems here: (1) A basic facts problem, (2) A historical problem, (3) A rhetorical problem.

Please read this one carefully; this may well be an exploratory talking point from The Platform.

Quick 🧵- first, the basic facts problem.

[i] Wyatt's basic fact problem is the SATF unilaterally took up the ERLC’s offer to each be a “consultant” for three years on the Benkert Assessment.

brnow.org/news/erlc-trus…

So they offer their advice freely, where they want to.

No one is talking about this...

Here's the most pressing need for investigation in the SBC:

Who did @WillyRice call "in denominational leadership" that initiated the hit on Tom & Jennifer Buck + how did @SEBTS become involved?

Remember the timeline (refresher in the remainder of this 🧵).

(i) 1. FBC Lindale elders go to Willy Rice about his deacon on the 26th.

2. Rice (who is a @NAMB_SBC trustee) goes to denominational leaders he trusts (his words) sometime between then and the following day.

Hey y'all. Have you seen @DannyAkin? @kswhitfield? @SEBTS and/or their trustees?

Remember Akin's commitment to public transparency & urgency when sheltering sin is on the line?

The reality is SEBTS *has* been talking. Just not in a way Danny once thought was necessary.

(1/) Read these tweets. They are in order. The important info is in the 3rd. Twitter lets you add 4 images so the 5th will be in the next tweet.

Again: note the third tweet here. About SEBTS responding.

It makes plain The Platform's hypocrisy & it is galling, to put it mildly.

Bumgardner got used like toilet paper.

SBC Elites knew he was craven enough & dumb enough to run this story. They hoped he'd take the fall; people would get angry at him & think the filth stopped with him.

Ultimately, though, David is just an instrument.

(1/) Image A willing one? One deserving of all the scorn he'll now face? For sure. But an instrument. Like toilet paper.

The 1st wave was, "Get mad at Bumgardner." But remember Benkert let the cat out of the bag?

Hang w/ me - this is important.

A 7 tweet thread:

In the Fall of 2019 FBC Naples was accused of racism for not calling Marcus Hayes as pastor. Examples of those in Platform calling this church out: Turns out though, many in the church were not racist at all. They actually had an issue with wokeness leanings of Marcus.

But that’s not all check out the clip in the next tweet.

The PR push from @TGC, et al is here (check the replies).

What you need to remember about Adams' book:

It's a new attempt at normalizing racial animosity (CRT/I). Less confrontational than Divided by Faith, more appeals to victim status. Dial down anger, dial up empathy.

(1/) Check this thread.

The gushing about Isaac Adam's Talking About Race book from certain woke & woke-adjacent segments of Twitter looks for all the world like a new girl moved to Woke Evangelical High School & has become the new thing.

These endorsements couldn't be brighter red flags...

(1/) ImageImageImageImage ...than if they were literal red flags being waved. Matt Hall, Collin Hansen, etc? You couldn't design a PR campaign to say, "Be Ware!" more thorough than that set of screen shots above.

But then check out the promo pieces that highlight the book's content.
