Yes, there's a s. 7 of the Estate Duty Act that exempts the estates of Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi from having to pay any estate duties. And yes, there's an Estate Duty (Abolition) Act that exempts ALL estates of deceased Kenyans from paying estate duty.🧵
The Estate Duty Ordinance was enacted in 1952 or thereabouts. It imposed a duty on the estates of all Kenyans that were in Kenya when they died. Jomo Kenyatta assented to the amendment to s. 7 of the Act in 1969, a whole decade before he died.
