A few random tidbits & thoughts in play here for June:

The worst June on record is a loss of -8.60% from June 08.

Second place is June of 1962’s loss of -8.18%.

We’re down -11.26% as of now.

Gonna need a comeback to avoid the worst June ever. We’re down -23.07% on the year thus far too.

Only 2 other calendar years finished the halfway mark down -20% or worse - 1970 (-21.01%) & 1962 (-23.48%)

FWIW, forward 12 month returns following 70 & 62 boomed to the moon so the poor start to the year isn’t a death sentence.

A few of my favorite studies now that August is in the books:

First, the S&P 500 pushed its monthly winning streak to 7.

Here are all priors.

T+5 months later has never seen the index close lower. Image We can also label 2021 as a calendar year where the S&P 500 closed August up 20% or more.

Here are all calendar years where at least half as good, i.e. we closed August up 10% or more.

T+4 months later higher 22 of 25 for +5.3% on average. Image
