The annual storm overflow figures for England have just been released by @DefraGovUK and, as ever, they make grim reading 🧵⬇️ The headline statistics are these:

- There were 301,091 'spill events' in England in 2022
- These lasted for a combined 1,754,921 hours.
- That is the equivalent of 200 years of sewage, in a single year.

It seems that @SouthernWater have updated their BeachBouy interactive map.

They will no longer change the colour of a bathing location to red if a sewage (CSO) release doesn't meet certain criteria. (1/5) Image On the face of it, this appears to be an incredibly cynical attempt to make their sewage map look less like the one below (last October) and attract less criticism and negative publicity as a result.
