Disappointing news from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in cases brought by 16 young people from across the world against five nations for violating their rights through inadequate climate action.
Cases rejected because the youths did not go to national courts first. Other aspects of the cases are more positive from a legal perspective. The Committee found that it had jurisdiction to determine the cases because States are responsible for regulating emissions from their territory that harm children's rights.
