📣ANNOUNCEMENT: @NYCMayor & @NYCDHS have been moving homeless individuals out of hotels & into congregate shelters - late at night - for WEEKS 📣
➡ The City is doing this without regard to health and while disregarding State law on transfers🧵
On Wednesday @NYCMayor announced to the media that he needed State authorization to move people back to congregate shelters.
The reality was that he'd already had the transfers in process.
Tonight a group of residents at the Garden Inn in Queens arrived at the hotel this eve to be told that they needed to pack immediately and be ready to get on a bus at 10 pm. When they asked where they were going, staff had no idea and said that "they would find out on the bus."
@NYCMayor@NYCDHS this is shameful.
Stop treating people like cattle, or chess pieces to be moved around on a board.
Everyone we spoke to said the same thing- where I really need to move from here is into *housing*

[1/2] Today we received trove of NYC #supportivehousing interview outcome data. Here's one that stands out: "Rejected. Client presented as resistant during the interview process. Client did not engage interviewer appropriately." What does "appropriately" mean? Who judges it?
[2/2] The provider does. Is this #racialized, is it #gendered? Is this a valid reason to #gatekeep housing from a homeless person w/ mental illness in need? Social workers should not get discretion to gatekeep a basic human need w/ no accountability. Yet, here we are.
