Suomennorjalainen vähemmistö on:
- genealogisesti jäljitettävä,
- historiallisesti rajattu,
- ammattikulttuurillisesti yhtenäinen,
- kielessä täysin sulautunut,
- identiteetiltään hiljainen,
- vailla poliittisia tavoitteita,

mutta silti selkeästi erottuva vähemmistö.

but it cannot be “multicultural” in the ideological sense where society is made of competing group identities. @AlanSalehzadeh Finnish culture cannot become “multicultural” in the Anglo-American sense of the term, because that concept is built on group-based identity structures that do not exist in Finland.

But Finland integrates people from many cultures — if they operate within individual-based norms.

16. marraskuuta on päivä, jolloin norjalainen liikemies Hans Gutzeit vihki käyttöön höyrysahan – “Norjan sahan” Kotkansaarella vuonna 1872. Tämä hetki merkitsee – niin teknisesti kuin kulttuurisesti – norjalaissiirtolaisuuden alkua Suomessa.

Norjan metsät olivat 1800-luvun lopulla hupenemassa, ja sahateollisuuden raaka-aine käymässä vähiin. Tästä syystä Hans Gutzeit käänsi katseensa Suomeen, jonka rannikolla avautuivat koskemattomat metsät ja vesireitit – täydellinen yhdistelmä modernille höyrysahalle.
