So, I’m seeing more and more invocations of the #ModelMinorityMyth on here. There are a LOT of reasons it’s problematic, but here are some of the key points.

The model minority myth upholds and perpetuates anti-Black racism. Saying “this group is so hardworking and successful!” validates mirror image stereotypes that other groups must be inherently deficient.

Dunbar: Networking among black women was a critical part of the abolition of slavery. Black women have always been at the center, even if it’s not part of how the narratives have been shaped. This continues through the Civil Rights Movement through today. #AntiracistBookfest
