“Ethnoreligious group” does not mean both an ethnic group AND a religious group. It means the 2 components are so completely intertwined, dependent upon, & sustained by the other that to analyze them as distinct concepts embodied by 1 people would be nothing but fragmentation. 1/
Yes, the term religion is new when compared to the Jewish people’s ancient culture, incl. its belief system (which includes codes of law). But without the advent of that system, or contract if you will, would those who first took it on have grown to become a distinct people? 2/
