The life we are living in the southwest right now is a complete failure of governing, not by current leadership, but decades of failures to make sometimes expensive investments because no one could explain why it was needed. Now people are dying, cold and without water.
Initially it was just a winter storm, extreme cold was coming. The houses here in NW Louisiana and in Texas are built for much, much warmer weather and many don't have a solid foundation but pier and beam construction. Pipes froze quickly, floors are like a freezer.

The GOP tax bill is yet another symptom of the break between voters in our democracy, and policy outcomes in our government. It is widely opposed yet the level of fear of losing one's office is negligible. Causes: 1. Gerrymandering. 2. Citizens United 1/
Gerrymandering is clear in it's impacts. Congresspeople rarely have to actually run to win their seat because the districts have been designed to keep them from having to. That leaves a few dozen seats, out of 435 seats, which are competitive every cycle. 2/
