Speaking of "masculine" presidents, here's the front page of the Chicago Tribune the day Teddy Roosevelt got shot during a speech and finished the speech before going to the hospital.
The bullet hit Roosevelt's coat pocket where his thick speech papers slowed it, leading one observer to say he was only "half-shot." Another said he was thankful TR was a long-winded blowhard, because if his speech was shorter, it wouldn't have stopped the bullet.
