I'm a proud alum. I had a great education there and it has done a lot to improve its urban campus and engage with Torontonians over the last two decades.

Changing Ryerson's name is the right decision, and the only realistic decision.

Good news. I admit, a few years ago, I thought differently about changing the name, though I still believed then the statue should have come down. But I listened and reflected. This is the right call.

I hope the new name reflects the institution's community and its values.

These are some big service improvements, including additional connections to UW and WLU, a new weekday bus between Hamilton and Brock University, and the extension of Route 25 (which services Guelph) from Square One to Kipling Station.

Some express trains are returning as well. (The rumoured GO train service to Stratford and London is not among the changes in September.)

As much as I respect Greg Gormick, I do not agree at all with the arguments he presents, especially the one where we don’t even need a rapid transit relief line. It’s funny, because I know exactly who the person he’s not mentioning is (the “carry-over” “embedded consultant”). He wrote a half-baked transit review a while back that had serious flaws and historical errors. He too once said we don’t need a DRL; GO expansion will suffice.

Here’s the current plan for the Brampton Gateway Terminal @HurontarioLRT terminus at Steeles Avenue.

Pedestrians connecting between LRT and @BramptonTransit buses will have to cross one of Peel’s busiest intersections to make the transfer.

Including nine lanes of Steeles Ave. The LRT stop was supposed to go on the north side of Steeles Avenue, where crosswalks on the north and south side of the platforms would have made bus connections much easier and safer.

I just learned that Scotland gives names to its snow clearance trucks.

Ain't no school bus (ain't no school bus)
Ain't no streetcar (ain't no streetcar)
Ain't no subway car (ain't no subway car)
The shuttle bus (the shuttle bus)!

Gimme confirmation of my information
Of my transportation from Kennedy Station Well, I start to cuss on the McCowan bus
And you can't go far on the College Street car
You know the GO train is a real pain
And the LRT—that's not for me
Well, you can't have fun on the York U run
And the Eglinton West trolley is just a big folly…

How long has the public space in front of Toronto Police Headquarters been barricaded off from the public? Image I deputed before the Police Services Board here last year. I felt it was an unnecessarily intimidating experience, starting with the metal detector search upon entering, and the boardroom full of uniformed cops. You felt like you aren’t wanted.

A thread on old Brewers Retail locations in Northern Ontario.

Unlike the south, most Beer Store locations in the North still have the retro orange signs.

But there’s something more interesting about these stores…

1/ We’ll start with the main North Bay store: note it’s not in the main shopping area, but outside of downtown on the old highway, behind, there’s a railway. 2/

“This part of Brampton is also densely populated with essential workers, census data shows.”

Precarious employment in the manufacturing, retail, and logistics sectors. The map in the article also shows hot spots Rexdale, Malton, and northeast Scarborough. NE Scarborough also has many food production plants, warehouses, and a major depot where precarious workers pick up your Amazon orders. Image

With the loss of the GO-TTC fare discount, let’s see how long it takes to get to campus from Highway 407 Station on foot to save $3.20 each way. I’ll start by following the signs to street level. It’s pretty in the late afternoon sun.
