Bergkamp level sequence of two touches.

Chalobah does well because doesn't lose pace when spinning yet he's going in two opposite directions.
Most CBs lose momentum.
A young Fofana / TS might gain up half a yard

But unfair 1v1. Press the long ball
When the long ball is launched, Chalobah is already retreating. Carrier not closed down = backoff is defensive U11 basics

Touches are genuinely world class, the first one especially but the speed of the first one that goes faster than Chalobah's footwork. It's a PL winger. Image

Penalty: Hospital pass by Enzo to Lavia who's marked.

Lavia spinning like in academy football. Needs to keep his arm / hip between the ball and the opponent, and use his arm to keep the opponent at distance

Ideally arm on chest pulling the shirt in the other direction Image

Principles stem from the universal dynamic of the game, it's the outlook at 11-a side.

Sub-principles are universal relations involving 2-3 players (overlap, defend, show for the ball, get away from the carrier etc...)

Sub-sub-principles is the individual scale (ball mastery) Image "Philosophy" is a non actionable buzzword

Sub-principles:
⚪️Delay, narrow, show wide
🦅Drive diagonally / Run diagonally away from carrier / run diagonally towards goal

These are ☑️ boxes to tick to make them actionable, and involving players' perception/action and decisions Image

Chelsea v Aston Villa

What do I see, what do I know

Tactical ReviewImage Enzo, closing down angle is poor (ball watching) and ends up wrong side of the oppoennt who can draw a foul.
Protect the line between the ball and a goal, and manufacture 3-5 yards of space to close down in front. Image

You may think Mourinho is washed.

But he's been the most proeminent figurehead of Tactical Periodization for over 20+ years
That's not atom splitting, most of it is common sense.

But it's a very enjoyable challenge to get around it and implement it. For sure, his public communication is all but football.

Is it any worse than morons with the "we have the ball we run less we do it the right way" gospel that guillible tacticos swallow?

Press conference mish mash is a shallow exercise of using buzzwords for clout. Image

🟦🧢TUCHELSEA'S TRAINING SESSIONS

📚I've posted a library of video breakdowns of Tuchel's training drills from Chelsea (2021-2022) based on every bit of footage available on Social Media

🧐There's a description of the why and how to do every training session

🧵 Image 🟦🧢I've posted one Chelsea manager obituary for a decade

These training ground breakdows are just a section in the biggest piece of football content I've ever produced (and probably ever will)

📲Which you can access to at the end of this thread

🟦CAICEDO CRUSHING SPACE

Long ball from TS to Sterling.
Look how close (and FIT 🏃‍♂️ ) the team is to squeeze in

Looks like "not technical / improved over the summer" CG is able to take out bodies with mesmerizing quick feet

Next time Enzo can't hit the target, #8 taken off

😐🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👣 🩰FIKAYO TOMORI ?
🧐🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👣🩰 Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori 🔍

Let's have a closer look at some of the key features of Tomori's defensive sequence vs James Maddison.

🧵

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👣 🩰 WHAT IS IT ABOUT

In player development there's two boxes to tick:
The WHAT / HOW

WHAT: scorekeeping, prevent ⚽️

HOW: coaching points:
- Stay dynamic on toes
- Shoulders over feet
- Feet narrower than shoulders
- Eyes on the prize

So that it becomes second nature Image

🧵DO CHELSEA NEED MORE ATTACKERS ?
(Part II)

The question isn't whether they could add more because of course they can - and will

Therefore I won't address the question whether they should

Or maybe I will, with random benchmarks 👀

Do consider a 🍕 diet, you only live once.

This is a THREE PART thread 🥞

- One focused on conventional 9s

- Two will focus on yet another string of keychain attackers we are short of (number wise)

For some reason, they will be benchmarked with two random mystery players

As usual how "scouting" works (wanted to see the Spurs' reserve players on FM)

You end up "spotting" someone else

⚠️ A word of caution

Please read that thread for what it is,
- this is not a comprehensive scouting report
- this isn't a good / bad truther
- these are clips based on one game with scouting/coaching notes

Okay so I'm going to number it.

Madueke had an interesting performance and a goal.

Key takeaway is that he never stopped trying. Which is really good given circumstances

That said there's a lot of small details that could increase the quality of his involvement. Image

One of my favourite Chelsea goals ever. What it meant to that group of players, led by Lampard, last minute at Arsenal 1: COUNTERATTACK RULES:
carry the ball straight for a diagonal pass.
(Or diagonally for a straight pass)

Don't release the runner too early, only when CBs drawn enough to the ball. ➡️🍯⬅️ Image

As for yungchalobah, Mitoma this that

Elite wingers are elite because they've got 50-70% dribble success (not Pulisic's 42%)

🌛Savant points at the moon, don't look at the finger 👉

📐How double/triple team act is key.

🔀Brighton expert at finding 3rd man

Chalobah well today Image ✅ [3'] Chalobah is facing a 1v2

Adopts the right posture, lowering his body, footwork
Points at requiring a double team who'd handle Mitoma
Chalobah needs to pick up the deepest runner

That's textbook fullback in crisis (1v2) situation

Has a touch on the cross
