In 1833, John James #Audubon described and named Bachman’s Sparrow for his friend John Bachman who provided Audubon with some specimens he had obtained. (Of course, the species had already been described by M.H.C. <Hinrich> #Lichtenstein in 1823, but oh well.) 2\12

I know this is a foreign concept to most folks, but we scientists on university faculties – especially conservation/ecology types – generally do NOT do things "for the money". 1/n #sciencemoney
When I am awarded a grant, that money goes to creating a position for me to hire a grad student or post-doc to manage the project. I could request something like 1 month salary for myself (I'm only paid for 11) but I almost never do. #sciencemoney 2/n
