Congress must act before critical child care funding runs out on September 30th. Senator @PattyMurray and I just released a major report on what will happen if it does. Here’s what we found: @PattyMurray 1 in 5 child care programs say they will have to serve fewer children.

LIVE: Some of my colleagues in the Senate want to give in to the extortion of the microchip industry and hand them a $76 billion blank check. I say instead let’s enact the agenda the American people want. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1… According to a recent AP article, Sen. @MittRomney, reflecting the views I think of many “said that when other countries subsidize the manufacturing of high technology chips, the U.S. must join the club.”

Many of my colleagues, day after day, talk about how deeply concerned they are about the deficit and the national debt. They tell us that we just don’t have enough money to expand Medicare, to guarantee paid family and medical leave, and to address the climate crisis. Yet, tomorrow, the U.S. Senate will be voting on an annual defense budget that costs $778 billion – $37 billion more than President Trump’s last defense budget and $25 billion more than what President Biden requested.

Today, with seven of my Senate colleagues, I sent a letter to Kaiser Permanente Chair and CEO Greg Adams in support of the more than 30,000 nurses and health care workers planning to strike unless negotiations for a fair contract improve. These workers have been on the frontlines in our fight against COVID-19. They risked their lives to save patients – showing up to work despite not being provided basic protective equipment.

Poll after poll shows overwhelming support for the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better legislation. Yet, polling also shows that a majority of Americans have very little knowledge as to what is in this bill. Why is that? There are a number of reasons, but at the top of the list is the reality that the mainstream media has done an exceptionally poor job in covering what actually is in the legislation.

I’ve heard Senator Manchin talk about not wanting to see our country become ‘an entitlement society.’ Well, I’m not exactly sure what that means. Is protecting working families and cutting childhood poverty an ‘entitlement’? Are the children of this country not entitled to high quality childcare and pre-K education? Are working families in this country are entitled to affordable housing?

The $3.5 trillion Budget Resolution that I am introducing today will allow the Senate to move forward on a reconciliation bill that will be the most consequential piece of legislation for working people, the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor since FDR and the New Deal. It will also put the U.S. in a global leadership position to combat climate change and make our planet healthy and habitable for future generations, while creating millions of good paying jobs as we address the long-neglected needs of working families and saving the planet.

At a time of massive wealth and income inequality and when half our people are living paycheck to paycheck, what this reconciliation bill will finally do is address the needs of our working families by asking the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes. In many ways, it is the most consequential piece of legislation for working families since the Great Depression.

As a result of the American Rescue Plan passed several months ago by Congress and signed into law by President Biden, bold action will be taken to cut childhood poverty in half and make it easier for moms, dads, and caregivers to raise their children. That includes a historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit. Starting this week, roughly 39 million households, including 88% of children in the US, will begin to receive a direct monthly child tax credit payment.

At this time of unprecedented crisis, we must move forward to boldly address the systemic and existential threats facing us today and that includes combating climate change and making sure that every American has a safe and decent place to live. It is unacceptable that over half a million people in America, the richest country on Earth, are homeless.

At a time of massive income and wealth inequality, and when workers have little power on the job, I applaud the pro-union Amazon workers in Alabama for their courage and willingness to stand up for their rights. They’ve inspired workers everywhere. I am disappointed but not surprised by the vote. It is extraordinarily courageous for workers to take on one of the world's wealthiest and most powerful corporations, a company that spent unlimited sums of money to defeat the organizing effort.

This week, as part of the reconciliation bill, I will be offering an amendment to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. At a time when millions of workers are earning starvation wages, when the minimum wage has not been raised by Congress since 2007 and stands at a pathetic $7.25 an hour, it is time to raise the minimum wage to a living wage.

Today, I voted to convict President Trump on two articles of impeachment. It gives me no pleasure to conclude that he is guilty of the offenses laid out in the trial.

Sadly, we have a president who sees himself as above the law and is ignorant or indifferent to the Constitution. There were two questions for me to answer as a juror in the impeachment trial: whether President Trump is guilty of abusing his power as president for his own political gain, and whether he obstructed Congress in their investigation of him.

I am proud to stand with my colleagues today to reassert our constitutional authority and introduce legislation—the No War Against Iran Act—to stop President Trump from leading this country into an illegal war against Iran.

The American people are sick and tired of endless wars. When I look back upon American history I remember the two most significant foreign policy mistakes our country made in the modern era, and those are the war in Vietnam and the war in Iraq. And let us be clear, we were led into both of those wars by a series of lies.

From my family to yours—on behalf of Jane, our four kids, seven grandkids and myself—I would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. Image As we celebrate, it is hard not to reflect on our broken food system. Millions of Americans are hungry, farmers are going bankrupt, and others are denied access to land. It is not a radical idea to say that we can do better. theamericanconservative.com/articles/to-re…

The FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh must include a review of his numerous untruthful statements in his previous testimony before Congress. Lying to Congress is a federal crime.

Here are his statements that appear to not be true: (1/x) Kavanaugh was asked more than 100 times if he knew about files stolen by Republican staffers from Judiciary Committee Democrats. He said he knew nothing. Newly released emails show that these files were regularly shared with Kavanaugh while he was on the WH staff. (2/x)

I thank @jaketapper for admitting his “fact check” on Medicare for All was not factual and editing his video.

Sadly, Tapper's video on Medicare for All along with other “fact checks” is riddled with errors peddled by the Koch-funded Mercatus Center. Let's go through them: 1) We correctly state that the Mercatus report found that the American people would save $2 trillion over 10 years under Medicare for All. That finding is right here in Table 2 of the Mercatus study.

If President Trump won't confront Putin about interference in our elections and his destabilizing policies, Congress must act. Tweets and speeches are fine, but we need more from Republican senators now.

Congress must take these 5 actions to rein in Trump's dangerous behavior: 1) The Congress must make it clear that we accept the assessment of our intelligence community with regard to Russian election meddling in our country and in other democracies.

The American people are demanding that we have the courage to stand up to the NRA and finally take some action to move us in the right direction on gun safety. Let me suggest some of the ways in which I believe we should go forward in a bipartisan way. 1) We must seriously strengthen universal background checks, including ending the gun show loophole. Background checks don't mean anything if somebody can go into a gun show or the internet and buy weapons without undergoing any background check.

Today is a victory for the largest and most profitable corporations in this country who, despite record-breaking profits, will now see hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks at the expense of working families. Apple, which has received $726 million in corporate welfare and government handouts over the last 30 years, will get a $48 billion tax cut from Republicans.

As we come toward the end of 2017, I hope and expect that most Americans know that almost every promise that @realDonaldTrump made during his presidential campaign was a lie. Just a few examples: He promised to provide health care to "everybody," but he supported legislation that would have thrown up to 32 million Americans off the health care they currently have.
