🧵: While we still don’t have all the details, as a pastor who has long been engaged in justice work, I am concerned by what we know about last Wednesday’s show of force against the organizers of an Atlanta bail fund, & the questions it raises. (1/10) These tactics, coupled with the limited public information provided so far, can have a chilling effect on nonviolent, constitutionally-protected free speech activities those of us in the fight for justice have been engaged in for years. 🧵: As a pastor & Senator for Georgia, I’m always focused on centering people in the policies that come out of Washington.

That’s why I’ve long said Congress needs to come together to do our job & lift the debt ceiling—and why I support the bipartisan plan to avoid a default. Avoiding a default is the top priority right now because defaulting on our debt would be detrimental to Georgia’s families, Main Street, and the rest of our economy. (2/6)

🧵: Our servicemembers are the best among us.

I’ve fought since my first day in office to advocate for Georgia’s servicemembers, veterans, and their families. I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish for members of the military community across our state. In August, I fought to send the bipartisan Honoring our PACT Act straight to President Biden’s desk.

Georgia veterans have spent years fighting for us, the last thing they should have to do is fight with us to get the benefits they deserve.

This is personal for me because I'm a product of good public policy. I attended college on Pell grants and student scholarships, and I know the doors that higher education can open—when you can afford it. This announcement will help many Georgians, some of whom have been struggling with debt for decades, get their financial footing, and it will help keep our economy strong and growing.

Our country is defined by a struggle to make its foundational moral witness more authentic by building a more perfect union that includes us all. That story and struggle cannot be told completely without reference to people of African descent. #BlackHistoryMonth2021 (1/5) Dr. King, & those brave men and women who worked & marched alongside him, weren’t just fighting to improve the lives of Black Americans.
