In today’s Thursday Squamate Thread, I bring you 2 genera instead of 1! Two genera of semiaquatic Tupinambine Teiid lizards: Caiman Lizards (genus Dracaena, 2 spp) and the Crocodile Tegu (genus Crocodilurus, monotypic) Both genera are unique among teiids in having distinct adaptations for a semiaquatic lifestyle. They belong to the subfamily Tupinambinae but are NOT each other closest relatives. Dracaena guianensis (l) and Crocodilurus amazonicus (r, P: Sébastien SANT)
