1️⃣: It is part of our responsibility as coaches to be developing the Resilient Mindset in our players.
Separate WHO YOU ARE from WHAT YOU DO & WHO YOU ARE IN RELATIONSHIP WITH.
But something cool recently happened to me as a 🏀 coach.
📚 There are several lessons I learned in the story so I thought I’d share the story here.
Here’s a coaching story about BUILDING LEADERSHIP STRUCTURES on your team.

4 years ago - I had an incoming Freshman who was the best MS player who had come into the HS program since I’d been the coach
She was good. I knew she’d play and be one of our best players right away.
BELOW is a thread of the 5 things that made me think the most!
👇👇👇👇
1 - “Most improvement takes place in environments with high rates of JOY and STRUGGLE”

...but - for me - the Tagging Up “gamble” was well worth it.
Our team was going to be “hard of scoring” and it generated lots of easy baskets for us.
I also love the EDGE and TOUGHNESS that offensive rebounding on every shot afforded our players. They took pride in it.

DEFENSIVELY:
On Pressing - only 4% of opponents buckets came from Press Break Offense.
While - we scored 9% of our points off of TOs.
We played a soft 1-2-2 and really it just gave our opponents an extra half of the court to turn it over.

SCORES CREATED STUDY: A Thread.
First - I wanted to talk a little about the process.
Was surprised at how short it took. Got to ~20 min per game by the last games of the season.
Watching every basket REVEALs the best and worst of of your group and your decisions as a coach.
For some context before some numbers - this year we made 2 significant stylistic changes.
1. Tagging Up 2. We pressed every game.
We did not press ALL game every game. But we pressed at some point every game..

COACHES - A THREAD...
Like many of you, I have recently participated in countless online clinics.
I learned A LOT.
I posted notes & developed some of the best conversations with coaches I’ve ever had!
Many Twitter/email conversations, and even quite a few Zooms.. 1/14
So - I’ve decided to collect all of those clinic ideas/notes into one thread for you!
This is not all of the clinics that I learned from - but some of my favorites.
DM me for copies of my notes on any of them. I’d also love to connect with anyone on any of these ideas...

Made a visual of @Topp33 “4 Stages of Habit Building” from his @Coaches_Clinic talk a couple of days ago.
Adapted from one of my favorite @GiANTWorldwide leadership visuals out there, The Apprenticeship Square.
Here is some insight into the role of the Coach/Leader in each stage from my experience using this tool with my players.

Leadership Lessons from High School Seniors, A thread:
For the last 5 years, I’ve had the opportunity to design and implement a 4-year leadership program at @ProvidenceAcdmy. The challenge from administration - if we had a blank slate, how would we do leadership in HS?
(1/5)
The program is called “L2” which stands for Liberating Leaders. We define leadership as LIBERATION. A LIBERATOR is one who “fights for the highest good of others”
Our vision for L2 is to come alongside families to develop leaders who go into the world and liberate others!

As COVID-19 continues to spread, some form of remote school feels inevitable.
For years, I have been haunted by the idea that content delivery (esp in HS), has largely been the same for centuries.
One teacher standing in front of chalk/white/smartboard, lecturing...
3 years ago, I challenged myself to record every single Geometry lesson I taught that year and gave my best at what I called a “hybrid-learning experience” for my students.
I learned so much more than I could’ve imagined from that and am a better educator because of it...
