Here are some thoughts on the authorization of 4th immunization in the US for 50 yo and above. Multiple Israeli studies show positive effects of a fourth immunization in the older age groups using the Pzifer vaccine. This can be balanced by the fact that 3 immunizations already protect from the vast majority of hospitalization and deaths.

An increase in rare cases of myocarditis have been observed in COVID19 mRNA vaccinated subjects. Our study @BjoernPeters2 @SetteLab at @ljiresearch does not support that this is related to potential cross-reactivitiy between the S protein and myocarditis-associated autoantigens This should be interpreted with caution, as it is purely based on computational similarity analysis, and lacking of evidence is not evidence of lacking.

Can T cell responses cross-recognize omicron? We looked at different vaccines (mRNA-1273, BNT162b2, Ad26.COV2.S, NVX-CoV2373) and multiple variants to answer that question. @settelab @Alba_Grifoni @profshanecrotty @aetarke @ljiresearch biorxiv.org/content/10.110… We found at least 83% and 85% for CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses were preserved, no matter the vaccine or the variant. Unfortunately and not unexpectedly highly significant decreases were observed for memory B cell and neutralizing antibody recognition.

1.There has been a lot of anticipation about Omicron and T cell responses. T cells epitopes are largely conserved and this suggest that most of the T cell response might still be on hand to fight the virus @Alba_Grifoni @aetarke @profshanecrotty @Dani6020 @ljiresearch 2. Scientists all over the world have identified T cell epitopes in the past year, we analyzed the number and fraction of CD4 and CD8 epitopes 100% conserved in various variants sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Our latest metanalysis of SARS-CoV-2T cell epitopes combines results from 25 different studies. 1400 epitopes for thus far defined from the worldwide scientific community studying CD4 and/orCD8 T cells . cell.com/cell-host-micr… This amazing diversity is even more striking considering that the epitopes presented by many HLA alleles are relatively understated, which means the actual numbers are likely to be much higher.

Check out the latest experimental work from our group.biorxiv.org/content/10.110…; Negligible impact of SARS-CoV-2 variants on CD4+ and CD8+ T cell reactivity in COVID-19 exposed donors and vaccinees.@atarke @Alba_Grifoni @profshanecrotty @Dani6020. 1-CD4 and CD8 T cells induced by the ancestral reference sequence recognize the four common SARS-CoV2 variants B.1.1.7, B.1.153, P.1. and CAL.20C.
