Thread (long one): #CatholicTwitter I wrote this a month before Pope Francis' Traditionis Custodes was released, in a chapter on reception of Vatican II for a short book on the Council I'm co-authoring with @SSBullivant. It's already outdated! 1) I was positioning Francis as the first truly post-conciliar pope (in the sense that he is the first post-Vatican II pope to not have been a participant in the Council in any way) and exploring what significance that might hold.
